Stock sport hitachi shocks were great on road but off-road I really had to slow down.

Upgraded to OEM suspension about 3 years ago. Loving it!

I'm coming up on three years of ownership with my 2021 Midnight Black TRD Sport AT/DCSB.

My decision was simple and I am fully satisfied with my selection.

The only truck I had previously owned was a used Isuzu Pup while stationed at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. I basically used it as a transitional vehicle before departing for my next duty assignment after shipping my primary vehicle to next duty station.

That vehicle was the first year 2003 Honda Pilot EX/DVD. It rode higher and was much heavier than the 1996 Honda Accord LX sedan it replaced.

Fast forward to Oct 2018 and over 200K miles later, I said goodbye to my Pilot with another transitional vehicle: 2010 Mazda CX-9.

After refinancing our mortgage in April 2021, just about a month later...I got my first new truck.

My decision was based solely on the fact the TRD Sport was intended mostly for street driving.

Yeah, it can be taken off-road but the Primary mission of this truck is street driving.

My next goal was to keep pricing below $40K which my Sport came in at MSRP $38,803 with only floor mats & door sills.

This truck was built in Mexico and I have not had any discrepancies to report to the dealership.

I'm a proud owner who still looks back at his truck every time I walk away after parking. :)

EDIT: I can't end this summary without saying "I Love the Skewp!!!"

Love my 23 DCSB Sport…..has everything I want. I had no use for the OR or the Pro. My 1st Tacoma was an ‘02 SR5 Prerunner, great truck, loved it.

Love the scoop as well………even if it is just a lump on the hood.

Great Pic! - I love it when the sun shines on the snow.
(Too bad it is a Sport though!) :D:crapstorm:

    Just kidding!

Sport Tacos are tacos too... No issues with that. - I have to admit my slight disdain for sport tacos only due to my experience with a friend's Sport Tacoma. He has had his for years - way before I considered getting my first Taco...

Since you ask why; It is simply due to the ride quality. Even on the street. It is just jarring (Even compared to my typical stiff sportscar rides back in my pre- taco days...). Off-road vehicles should be comfortable on-road, off-road and over the bumps.
    :burnrubber:

Well - the other thing is that they are too mono-colored. The contrasting trim makes the 'normal' tacos much more pleasing to the eye... I do like the scoop - but the lack of contrast plus the usual large wheels & winnie tires do not make for the prettiest sight.

Skewps should only be matt BLACK!

No biggie though... we can all get along!

What??? ok - I'll show myself out...

LOL I get it. The funny thing is that I think the ride is pretty soft. My last truck was an 84 Toyota with dual shocks on all 4 corners. If you ran over a nickel in the street is would knock you out of the seat! LOL I test drove both the Sport and Offroad when I bought mine and thought the Offroad felt like driving a Cadillac. I think it's just personal preference.

I don't like the scoop at all, but alas, I'm driving a sport because it was the only manual I could find. When you need a manual, you can't be too picky, so having a scoop is my compromise.

Back in the late 2000s when the 2nd gen came out Sports were a big reason the Tacoma style was popping off. I'll never forget the neck snapping ability of a nice silver or white Sport back then. They were a big deal. 17s with a bit more poke, turn signal mirrors, color matched bumper and grill surround.. they'll always have a OG place in Tacoma history in my opinion

The look of the Sport made me stop and look, the ride sold it.
Every time I get behind the wheel it whispers "game on, let's roll".

Driving is my primary form of entertainment, I drive simply because I enjoy it.
The Sport is an ideal road trip vehicle for me, hours and miles later I'm still engaged and having fun.

Back in the day I modified cars with stiffer sway bar bushings, heavier shocks, ect. to make them ride this way.
I got the ride I like without getting dirty.

Disclaimer: Almost 100% of my driving is on pavement.

I wanted a Sport and I still think it would have suited my use better than an OR. I do like the OR suspension though. Ultimately what manuals were available determined what I got. People love to boast about the locker in the OR, and that’s great if they need it. 99% don’t use it and almost all of them don’t even know what the locker is. For those who do need and use it, then it’s a huge selling point of the OR. For everyone else, it’s mostly bragging rights.

For me, I think both trims look good and both are capable. I don’t really prefer scoop or non, I like the wheels of both, I prefer the black flares but that’s about it.

Toyota should have given the Sport a Torsen LSD and full-time 4WD option. That would help give it an edge against the OR with true differences to consider to help promote one or the other.
