Why do my bluetooth phone calls sound like trash?

When I make Bluetooth phone calls, there is always a small delay and the receiver always complains that they can't hear me. When switch to speak phone on my iPhone, the delay and sound quality improve immensely. Any way I can fix this? Is it possible to upgrade the microphone in the tacoma? Thank you!!

I believe the microphone is near the map lights above the windshield. Try talking in that direction while keeping your eyes on the road. Also, try turning the speaker volume down and see if that helps.

The iPhone mic is picking up your voice also and both devices are competing to send the audio. It's worse if you have the phone in your shirt pocket. If I leave mine in my pocket and get a call, my voice is echoed. Taking it out of the pocket and dropping it in the cupholder solves it for me.

May be obvious, but it doesn't seem to be to some. I have two coworkers that have complaints with their company Fords, while no one else does. These two also have the phone volume turned up to wake the dead, you know the person you can hear their phone conversation in the parking lot several spots away, loud. It's the mic picking back up the sound from their own speakers. Just a thought, I don't have an issue with mine, or an iPhone though.

I have the same complaint in my 20 OR. The people on the other end of the call say there is a lot of background noise and static when driving or parked. Is the information in T-TT-0377-15 applicable to 17' and newer?

2020 TRD OR - I plug my phone in for Android Auto so I'm not sure if my calls are actually routed through Bluetooth. That being said, my experience thus far has been good call quality.

Is that from your 2019 because I can confirm for sure the mic is in the overhead console of my 2018. If you unplug it the system disables itself.

As others have suggested, if your phone is activating it's speaker along with the overhead built in speaker there will no doubt be issues. I can't remember but I think there are settings for that.

Anyways, my hands free in the truck is perfect with my iPhone 11 pro. People are amazed when I tell them I'm in the truck using the hands free speaker. They say it sounds very clear with no background noise.

    Yeah, I have a 2019. Didn't know the 2018 was different. Odd.

I also been having trouble with calls. I have an iPhone. Which volume should I turn down to try to fix this? I have been getting complaints about phone calls since Ive had the truck.
