I’m more or less curious why people make it a big deal when people do obscure the plate. Who gives a shit.

OP asking a legitimate question is hardly making a big deal out of it.

No I’m not referring to that I’m just saying someone will post a pic in the “what have you done today” threads and then 5 people break into a debate over the license plate being obscured.

I think it has to do with all the social justice warriors on the internet. I have seen a man's business get destroyed all because he parked like an idiot.

I’m proud to show mine. No blacking out for me. If you wanna come over that’s fine. Just be kind or I got boxes and boxes of ways to make you leave!

I think we're conditioned to by decades of shows like COPS, blurring out plates. But since Bill Clinton signed the driver's privacy act, all you can get from plate numbers is the vehicle's make and model. I'm still paranoid about it though lol

The likelihood that someone is able to look up your license plate and identify you is pretty small, and involves presumably illegal or privileged access.

    HOWEVER

When driving down the road, your license plate is visible, but it's just a single data point. Your license plate exists. Big whoop. Everyone knew that already. But if you post a message, you tie your identity to your plate, and therefore have given out much more information about yourself (you've correlated *at least* two pieces of data, and probably more).

So there's value in obscuring it, but probably not as much as people think.

Not necessarily. Some states show more information than others. I paid a few bucks for a week trial, and looked up a bunch of friends license plates. Turns out TX and VA show full name and address of the registered owner, and I'm sure a few other states do as well.

These are the same people who post their entire “Private” life on Face Book....when they’ll be out of town, etc, and then are paranoid about their tag number.

Great question. Stupidest thing I’ve seen. They’re afraid you will be able to track the location of the truck from a pic.
Lmao, nevermind that people see the damn thing everyday !!!
