    My ligitimate answer to the original question is TRD has always been refered to as 'turd' in my circle. So essentially all gens are some form of a turd...but we happen to have a third generation of the tacoma so it sounds tailor made for the 2016+...so there it is....the national inquirer breaking story.

    You would think someone years ago in the marketing dept would have pointed out the letters T R D might be a problem with the young male population the performance division was directed at, especially if they plaster it all over the truck.

    Or they figured we'd easily remember it and decides to keep it. Most everyone prefers the TuRD edition!
