Why do the 1st gen Limited PreRunner's have a lower KBB value than the non-limited editions?

Kelly Blue book shows for a 2002 PreRunner the Limited Edition is worth about $400 less than the standard PreRunner (same mileage, etc.).

Is this a mistake on KBB?

Really? I rarely see any Limited's listed for sale.. also that goes against the very definition of "limited" lol.

"Limited" is not an adjective, it's just the model name. I seem to see a lot more Limited 4Runners on the road than I do SR5s.

But KBB isn't the end all be all for vehicle pricing, either. It's a decent starting point, but it's not perfect. I just threw together a kbb pricing for a 4x4 doublecab in my area. From a dealer the TOP "fair market price" was ~$12k. It's not unusual to see private party sales go for $14k around here. The fact that KBB thinks I could get a 2004 TRD 4x4 double cab in very good condition from a private party for $7500 is pretty laughable.

To summarize, KBB is a crapshoot.

I assume this is a double cab? You tend to see more double cab limited PreRunner than normal double cab PreRunners.

This does not apply for standard and extended cabs.

In simple terms KBB and NADA both throw shit on a wall and hope it will stick.

When i sold my 1985 Toyota truck NADA claimed it was worth basically nothing and a lot of buyers would make a play with that bullshit number. My answer always was well if you can find one at that price in this condition have at it. I ended up selling it for thousands more than "book" value.

It gets better try autocheck for some total nonsense. My first gen had a minor accident early in life that required a minor repair to the fender. Carfax shows this Autocheck shows nothing

Yeah, all those "voluntary reporting" sites are just crap. I mean, at least they're trying to have some sort of database, but you can't rely on them.

I can't say they're comppletely useless, because if something is reported, there's at least a record of the damage, repairs, etc...

But for me, that doesn't really matter. If you know what to look for, you can see if anything was repaired, and if it was done properly. I don't care if that repair was reported or not, only that it was done correctly.

    Yep.

And not only that, in the KBB world, do they really care about production numbers on a 16yo truck? I mean it's not like they are Barrett Jackson class vehicles.

Even so, all they'd account for is the initial production, not how many are still alive.

KKB would value a 3rd gen 20% over sticker for Toyota Tax option.

Add up the prices of all x sold in an area, divide by the number sold, you get the average. Discard the highs and los, you get the range.

That's all Kbb and nada are. They don't set prices, they report past solds. That's it, nothing more. I honestly don't understand why people assuming Kbb actually thinks, decides, or sets anything.

Carfax, very expensive, poor quality toilet paper. It's only value is in what but says, not in what it doesnt say.

Limited has a higher towing capacity. Painted mirrors and trim. Sunroof and leather. Power seats and lumbar. My mom has a nice one, my dad and I talked her out of buying a Lincoln. Almost 20yrs ago, she loves that truck to this day.
