I see a guy down the street from me still driving his '67 Mustang as a daily. You have to stay on top of things. Simpler made, the easier that is.

Complexity is the enemy of reliability. I like my simple proven 4.0. It can't be beat when it comes to being simple but still efficient. I don't care about having heated electronic seats, electronic tilt steering, heated rear window, monitors for everything. All that causes is more shit to break. I love my manual seat? Have you ever timed how long it takes for a power seat to go from the back of the track to the front? I can watch the Star Wars trilogy faster. A manual seat is about a second from front to back. These trucks are so wicked easy to fix and work on. And we have awesome ground clearance from the factory. Ford, chevy and dodge can't touch a tacomas ground clearance without a lift kit. And electronic step boards are gay...

Trucks are like people. The better care you take of them, the better they treat you. You get out of it what you put in to it.

I don't think simplicity has anything to do with it, heck the domestics were stuck in the stone age using pushrod engines up until recently. I think a big part of it is that Toyota fixes problems when they're notified about them, and they learn from them... just take the head gasket issues on the 05-06 Tacoma, if that had been GM or Ford they would have let that problem persist for 5 or 6 years or until they did a complete redesign.

How many years did Ford know about the failing coil packs on the 5.4? How many years did GM know about the defective intake manifold gaskets in many of their engines? They were lazy, and just blew those issues off on the consumer.

Most of the content that makes up the Tacoma is N. American sourced.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the frame corrosion problem. That became such a big issue that Toyota was taken to court to handle. Don't forget the air injection switching valve problem. They've had their issues but this is my third Toyota truck and I plan on keeping this one.

I had to put a several new radiators and water pumps in my new 93 when I bought it in the first two yrs which toyota paid for everything. Also a new driveshaft that wouldnt stay balanced. At 185k had to put a new motor in it.

I think the reliability of the early models that came into the country and has long since changed has been overplayed up to now. I have friends who have 300-400k on suburbans, 1500's, and 2500's with no issues at all. They looked at my little yota and just laughed when my motor died.

Now the 2nd gen Tacoma is the best looking truck on the market IMO which is a reason I went with another Toyota, plus its the perfect size for my needs. All manufacturers have issues its how they are handled is what makes the difference.

Have you not heard of the frame issue?

Toyotas are not magic and not gaurenteed to last. If you don’t take care of your car it won’t be reliable.

So far as I've ever noticed they last about the same as everything else you can buy these days.

I know people love Tacomas, but the world doesn't really produce many 'bad' vehicles anymore. Take care of them, like has been said, and they'll all go for quite a long time.
