My Tundra had the secondary air pump problem, and Toyota fixed it under the extended 120k mile warranty. If it were GM or Ford I would have been screwed after 36k miles, they rarely extend the warranty on anything.

Because 99.9% don't mod and run only OEM parts and probably do just what the owner's manual suggests for maintenance.

    Nothing against modding.

This. Toyota tends to over-engineer and under-stress their components. Why else would we get a relatively big 4.0 motor putting out a whopping 240 HP?

    OME and worth every penny.
I always found it odd they made an aluminum 4.0 V8 just a few years before and it was 4.3 (300 HP) at the time of the Tacoma redesign. Not to mention the Tundras/4Runners 4.6(which was basically the same but iron block). I mean, they seem to think car engines are great for gas mileage now and gas was expensive at the time of the redesign. :notsure:

Exactly this. I compare it to Honda ATV's, very underpowered for their engine size, very little suspension travel and components that will last a life time. A Can-am, polaris, etc. has gobs more power and way more suspension travel but no where near as reliable as a honda. From my experience anyway

    back to bone stock.
last thanksgiving..i asked ask if this was the case; my friends brother is a tacoma engineer. i also read this in a car magazine..at the time it was about the Nissan twin turbo sports car. the article stated that Japanese engineers typically understress their engines for longevity.
