I've heard of problems with the Ecoboost in the F150. I'd take a 5.0L V8 in an F150 or a Mustang any day of the week!

Ive heard of problems with ecoboost just in general, just watch when the ranger comes out it’ll have problems and recalls just like everything else brand new. Its a new generation, just wait 2-3 years before buying the new gen of anything.

My 2.7L Taco is fast enough for me right now! And much, much, MUCH more reliable!

I completely agree. They either need to increase the V6 horsepower with a small turbo or just put a small V6 in them. I used to have a Dodge Dakota with their V8 in it and that little truck would get up and go. If a V8 fits in a Dakota then a V8 will fit in the Taco...Toyota needs to get with the program.

Yeah see I have the 2.7L too and love it. A year and 20k miles later and im super confident with it. Its solid. Now ive heard problems with the new v6, but i mean its new of course it’ll have problems. 2-3 years theyll have all those problems fixed at the factory.

Physical space constraints aren't the reasons for a lack of v8's in any midsize truck.

Yeah the v6 is cool and i would get it especially if youre tryna tow heavy stuff or more speed in general. The heaviest thing i tow though is a quad out to the desert so the 2.7 liter is cool. Plus its nice knowing you have the old school legendary reliabilty of the 2.7 under the hood lol. Plus I think the 2.7 liter is actually made in Japan

I had a 5.4 Triton Lariat, at 50k miles we started having problems with there being a mystery electrical current in the cooling system that was causing the radiator and/or heater core to develop a hole about once a year. All they did was replace it and add another ground somewhere, never solved the problem. Then like clockwork, at 75k miles, the transmission started to slip. Had more power than I ever needed, but the thing was a god damn nightmare.

So a Toyota V8 that they put in a tundra or 4-runner would fit? And if so, I wonder Why they wouldn't put a V8 in a Taco model?

I did some curious searching and read that the 4.7 V8 from the Tundra would fit in the 2nd gen Tacoma on the same mounts if I remember correctly.

Toyota built a 5.7L-powered 2nd gen Taco for the 2011 SEMA show!

Awesome. I think Toyota will eventually have to offer more options when it comes to powertrains to compete with chevy/GMC and Ford if they put V8s in the new rangers. Tacomas used to be the kings of the mid size truck but with chevy/GMC completely redoing their Colorado's and Canyons, they now have some serious competition. And w the chevy/gmc offering diesels and 300hp V6s i think Toyota will eventually come around to offer a 3rd option on powertrains in their tacos.

Yea, it seems like the Tacoma engines were just so good they felt like they didn't have to do much, but as all of the small/midsize trucks have gotten closer to being a fullsize, and fullsize trucks have gotten huge, the Toyota V6 is starting to feel slightly under powered. At least in my opinion. I've got the 4.0 in my Tacoma and it's perfect for everything I will ever use the truck for, although going from a 5.4 F150, a really good 3.5 Mazda CX-5, and my wifes turbo Jetta, sometimes when I go to pass on the freeway I wish I had just that little extra umph.

The 5.3L V8 was optional in certain 2008-2012 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks. The 5.3L Vortec is a damn good engine! Almost made me want one of those trucks...

It's red and silver with a white 95 on it (like Lightning McQueen). It also has the factory 15-inch steel wheels painted black...

I know like 3 or 4 people who had Canyons in that year range. 1, who is one of those guys that tells a ton of stories, and you aren't sure to believe anything they say had the head crack, but I don't know if he thought he was a mechanic or what. The other 2 still have them, one with over 200k miles. Drove really nice, I just didn't like the body styling.
