Did you get that hood from a 4runner sport model or add the scoop yourself?
Or was that an option on that truck back then? Looks awesome, I love the 97 front end.

i see your white '97 reg cabs and raise you a black '97
this truck i have had for an extremely long amount of time, it will be 23 years in less than 2 short months
in the early/mid 1990s i was outfitted a company chevy S-10 and I recall it did not drive, handle or was as comfortable as this truck has been for over 2 decades with the most minimal of routine maintenance, it still rolls the open highway at very high speeds with no stutter or wobble
1997 was the last year they made anything like this and somehow i was in the right spot at the right time in my younger days to upgrade from a 95 preTaco single cab 4cyl not knowing the re-design upheaval coming into the new millennium starting in 1998 with the new crop of Tacomas

a pic from last summers TW trip to the middle of a northern Wisconsin forest ready to hit some moderate off-road adventures with other mid west regional TW members, all of them had newer 3rd/2nd gens and a new T4R, my truck did rather well off-the-road and held its own like a champ!

Thanks, Ridgerunner  someday i am cruising i80 west to CA, so far have only made it to Salt Lake City
it maybe the right time now after the virus is done for to take a vacation, with gas back under $2 in most areas, which I have not seen locally in over 11 years now

Gas is coming down a bit here too-I paid $3.11 per gallon for Supreme at Costco. Last week I paid $3.89!
The COVID-19 thing just got worse about 2 hours ago-the powers that be here in San Francisco (and 6 other counties nearby) just ordered a "shelter in place" for every single person starting tonight at midnight. Stay home, period. They say you're allowed to do basics like grocery shopping, banking, etc but other than that, nothing.
Talk about a strange experience, but gees, our very liberty is being put on hold.

@GSDLVR123 LR, I think your friend did your son a solid deal. That's a great price for a 1st gen that's already lifted, what looks like an ARB front bumper with winch. As long as he kept up on the maintenance, which it looks like he did, this truck should last for another 200k miles. Tell your son to take good care of it.

Thanks - yeah the truck seems great - as I said my friend kept up every thing possible on the truck (clutch, timing belt, oil every 2500, new tires) - he didn't want any issues for my son!

That is a great story. I like to not worry too much when I head out on an adventure. Part of it is not thinking of what "could" go wrong because inevitably it always will or maybe not. Being prepared for anything life throws at you is a lot better than sitting around thinking about "omg - this could happen and then what?" more like F-it. Might as well!

Nothing changes if you never try something different. It can be really hard to make work, but it's so worth it.

First vehicle I ever drove was a 96 reg cab, learning to drive stick. My family all drives Toyotas, my uncle worked at a dealership for years. Undeniably the most reliable vehicles. A couple years ago I was getting sick of my outback and wanted a truck. Almost bought a ranger but it felt like shit. Started the several month process of finding a decent first gen here in the Northeast, and found mine on clist. It's a work truck, mobile home, and a source of pride for me. I love my Toyota and will drive it into the ground.

2 1/2 years and 55k miles (living in the boonies means lots o Miles) and she's given me nothing but loyalty. Minor repairs; spark plugs, fluid changes. The biggest thing was leaf springs. I bought the truck excited and intending to learn repair, other vehicles I've had I'd managed repairs. But the simplicity and (comparative, esp to the BMW I had ) ease of working on the yota is wonderful.

This site has been a source for inspiration, help, and great community. Here's to many more miles for myself and all y'all.

Started because I was too poor to afford a newer gen. Now that I own it I’m too poor to afford anything

Damn thing is a money pit. I do love it though.

Having the rare sport-side that's a rare topper on there too! Nice looking pickup! I like that front bumper too
