Wow that is pretty good. I have a 2.7 4 cylinder and usually see anything from the range of 22-25mpg. Sometimes even 26-27 if I drive slow and stay off the pedal.

That makes sense... spark plugs need to be changed because the ignition system is stressed by trying to fire the larger gap of a worn spark plug. I.e. the ignition system has to put out more power to bridge the larger gap, and over time this stress could cause some kind of failure (coil, etc.) Also the plug electrodes get thin and weak/brittle over time so they should be changed before they break or have other issues. Also they need to be changed because if a spark plug is left in the head too long, the threads could seize... it is rare but it does happen.

For what it's worth, my 2.7 4-cylinder has returned around 21-22mpg since October. In the summer it gets around 24-25.

Double cab, long bed, V6, 4x4, bigger tires... average MPG is 20.

I don't think yours is that great.

I don't believe you on the towing part. You must be towing an empty trailer or an itty bitty one with like 1,000lbs in it.

My stock plugs have 55,000 miles since last change,my gas mileage is fine. They are copper standard factory spec dealer plugs.

Yeah your 55 mph top speed is a huge contributor to this.

    End of thread.

Goodness! Well they are all new and fancy now so that shouldn't be an issue.

Dylon, my top speed was 71mph my average was 55mph. Traffic lights, stop signs and exit ramps, effect overall average speed.

Still wondering about what size tires you currently have - your math is good, but well-worn tires (especially non-stock size) can certainly affect the mpg calculation due to odometer error.

My stock 09 v6 double cab with the short bed has also always gotten no less than 20.8 mpg (calculated every fill up for over 3 years now). I have stock tire size, as well as a hard tonneau cover. Granted, I do drive 80 miles round trip to work, and about 70 of those miles are on the freeway typically going a steady 70 mph. During the summer I get just over 22mpg, air conditioning or not, and average about 21.5 year round like some other people have mentioned. I make it a point to rarely go over about 2,200 rpm though. Heck, even when I'm going 2,100 rpm I feel like I'm pushing it lol. I'm sure others drive way faster. I just want the truck to last and have as little engine wear as possible, so I watch my speed.

    just a few things.
Lol I only get 12mpg on lt 285,lift, winch, front + rear bumper, full skids, and rtt. Maybe it’s the shit gas here? And the fast city pace life style in sf? 70 is slow on freeways... everyone goes 80. And we climb over mountains (hills) to get to work.. u get honked at for sitting at a light for more than 3 seconds after it turns green.

Hey, I go 80 or more if I'm running late for work lol. I just hate doing it. That's when my mileage drops to just under 21 mpg. I live in Southern California, so I know what you mean. I just get out of the way of people if I need to. I use Arco gas exclusively because it's cheaper, if that helps at all. I keep up on all the truck's fluid changes religiously (oil, coolant, differential gear oil, power steering, etc) so that has to help to. My truck's tires are comparable to the tires the truck came with, so in other words they're more street oriented than offroad worrhy. I'll say for comparison's sake though that I drove a 99 V6 3.0 liter Ford Ranger for 10 years before I got my Tacoma, and that truck averaged 19.5 mpg the entire time I had it. The 4.0 V6 in the Tacoma definately has more power and still manages better mpg in my experience.

Yes I really enjoy the v6 in my taco. Never getting a vehicle with less than 200HP (and good torque) ever again. So nice to be able to go when I need to without feeling like I'm pushing an engine too hard.

I was thinking I am sure my mpg's will drop once I slap new tires on... so that sucks a bit. haha.

Actually I haven't checked them in a while but I think it was like 35 all around. Or 32, whatever the truck says on the door panel.

Most places I've lived, I'd get run off the highway if I cruised at 55mph.

Not saying you should speed up, but I'd imagine most people don't have the luxury/time to drive that slow.

Yeah well they are not paying for mah gas so they can just deal with it... haha. Plenty of space to zoom past. :p
What I love is when people will zoom up and ride my bumper for like 1-2 minutes and THEN zoom around and act all pissed off.
I'm just like... why set behind me for a while when you could just gently cruise around and be on your way?

Makes no sense. And honestly the different in time isn't that big assuming you're following the speed limits. Generally you cannot do over 65 mph here, but a FEW spots have 70 mph.
If you're speeding then that's a different story, but I'm not going to go out of my way just so someone can break the law. That's not my problem haha
