Yes, but does it constantly hunt for gears, have poor seating position, or lean towards one side?
It’s a good thing someone else will be paying for its repairs.

Toyota builds their trucks pretty much all the same. Ford offers multiple engine and axle options. I'm betting your Tacoma will out tow, and out run the Ford. I have both F150 and Tacoma.

Outlast the Ford, no question. Out run and out tow, questionable.

I'd say two reasons: The V6 in the F150 isn't working as hard as the one in the Tacoma to do the job, even though it's dealing with more mass and weight to get the job done. The second is the 10-speed automatic: That's a lot of choices for dealing with the job at hand: big or small. Reason 2a: may be the gear ratio in the pumpkin.

All that cost saving that you're getting from gas will go down the drain when the ford Turbo fails and the 10 speed takes a dump.

To answer your question its the transmission in the ford plus the turbo that's helping with your mpg

Doubt a 1/4 ton is going to out tow a 1/2 ton, base engine crappy rear ratio withstanding.

It’s a little lumpy the 3.5 isn’t it. Not a very smooth engine.
I have a ‘23 TRD PRO and I frequently have to shift down from 6th to 4th to get some power.

The 5.0 liter V8 is not an Ecoboost engine.

Yeah the aluminum frames always make great climbers. The engine has quite a bit to do with it also.

My 2018 f150 always got better mileage than my 2014 Tacoma. 19.5 mpg on my Tacoma and 24.5 mpg on my f150.

I have a 2018 F150 4x4 5.0 with 3.55:1 gear ratio that gets 18-21 mpg consistently. I habitually drive 80+ mph on the highway when able and off road only on occasions when needed. I will be trading in on a Tacoma OR MT. I'm not expecting to get better fuel mileage with the Taco due to its 4.30:1 gear ratio and aerodynamic disadvantage.
