Why does my F150 work truck get better gas mileage than my Taco?

I traded a 2018 F-150 5.0 4x4 with 3.55 gears for a 22 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 MT. Both vehicles are bone stock. With the 10 speed in the f-150, turned maybe 1300 RPM ay 60MPH. The Taco in high gear is 2000 RPM. The MPG for both vehicles combined was about the same. I wanted a manual transmission so that's why I traded. I think the 4:30:1 is the reason for the MT having a lower EPA mileage than the automatic. They are totally different vehicles. Saying that, I don't regret my decision.

My 2019 silverado trailboss got around 20ish mpg, 50/50 highway and city. 5.3 v8 with a 6 speed auto. My 3rd gen gets a bit worse milage.

I didn’t read the other responses.
But Toyota seems to stick with what works. There has been a 6 lug tacoma that ever got good mpg comparatively.

The haters can hate, but you don’t buy a Tacoma for good MPG. You buy it for reliability.

Of you want a truck that gets better mpg. Buy a Ford Ranger. But the expense will be about the same in the long run.

Bitch and moan all you want, that’s impressive fuel mileage for a full sized naturally aspirated truck. If Toyota could do it, they would.

Thanks for all your replies. Call me paranoid, but I think the days of cheap gas will eventually go away with legislation and industry pushing EVs. So, long term reliability for an ICE vehicle could be like a PC designed to last 20 years. I'll bet that our Tacomas will outlast affordable gasoline. Agree?

I thought that would be obvious? EPA has similar differences between the two as well, being the F-150 has better mpg rating.

Ford has improved over time, taco stayed the same (in terms of mpg).

Who buys a pickup and complains about its mileage? Seriously what is wrong with you. Leave us

We are all happy, debating turbocharges and raptor lights.

So I spent 350 miles in a Range Rover Sport with the supercharged 530hp v8… got 21.5 mpg … my Tacoma would have gotten 18-9. Take that Range Rover … Go hug Greta
