Two answers to the OP's question (first answer jokingly, second one probably true).
    1. Trying to see if TPMS will display a 3-digit number.
    2. Lack of attention / rushing to move on to the next job.

Door jamb is the first place you go to if you have stock tires. If you replace with similar tires door jamb sticker. Anything other check with the manufacturer to see if they have recommendations based on weight.

There recommendation will still be based on the oem tires' load rating and door placard psi.

    Basically...
Inflate P-metric and euro-metric to 2,149 lbs and LTs to 1,954 lbs.

Any tire that is the stock size and load range should be inflated to what the door jamb says. Most people replace their tires with tires that match the OEM specs, as well.

But, if someone switched to a different size or load range (like a lot of people on this forum), then pressure should be adjusted accordingly.

there are a zillion tire charts out there. Dealer recommends 32 psi for my trucks tires it came with. No way would I run at 26 psi for everyday use per your earlier post for P metric tires.

Ah you were talking about Min pressure, my bad. Since there are are so many tire charts curious as to if you have a link for the one you’re referencing. I have seen different tire manufacturers give different pressures for given loads.
In any case I stand by using the door jamb sticker for oem tires for normal use (no heavy loads near max). Toyota knows how much their trucks weigh and what tires they supply.

    Toyo; it's the most comprehensive.
They should all be the same; they're industry standards.

If you can give a link or post a non-Toyo chart and the particular tiren i can take a look.

My dealer inflated my Cooper ST Maxx E rated tires to 44psi last visit. Like driving on bricks.

If the tires are stock or close to stock the sticker on the door jamb is a good baseline and will satisfy what the tpms system wants to see

If you have bigger tires or a different preference tell the service manager where you want the pressure set

The number on the sidewall is always a maximum pressure and it's put there for safety/legal reasons only. That way the tire manufacturer can't be sued if the tire is overfilled and blows up causing injury

I don't go to the dealer, bunch of high school dropouts on drugs. The last thing I want is some idiot banging on my truck with his hammer he made in metal shop.

That's a pretty negative characterization to paint with a broad brush. My brother-in-law is an ASC certified master mechanic who is a senior tech at a large Ford dealership. Yea he didn't go to college but he graduated high school and has taken a lot of training, both from ASC and Ford. He's the guy they bring cars to when no one else can diagnose the problem. The only reason he doesn't have his own shop is that he doesn't want the headaches that come with owning a business. And I can guarantee you he's not on drugs.

Depends on one's definition of "close".

    The oem euro-metric 265/70/16/112 @ 30 psi has a 2,149 lb load capacity.

    A P-metric P265/70/16/111 @ 27 psi has a load capacity of 2,142 lbs.

A LT265/70/16/C,D or E @ 39 psi has a load capacity of 1,964 lbs. LTs are not de-rated for trucks and suvs; so it's 2,149÷1.1=1,964.

The P-metric requires 10% less psi to achieve the same load capacity; the LT requires 30% more psi.

The door placard psi and oem load rating sets your target weight. Inflation psi is the means to achieve that target weight.
