I bought a camper shell and mounted it mainly for that reason. I don't really drift or burn out just occasionally but I will definitely not be hard on it now! Haha

A camper shell is not cargo, well not much... Sand bags (filled) will do the trick... about 4 for starts.

Nothing is going to stop the hopping except traction traction bars. They are designed to keep the wheels down and stop axle wrap

I had crazy hopping until I upgraded to 5100s and dakars. Haven't had much off-road time on the new, but it was a major difference with the new leafs and shocks. Really smooth now. Before it was really bad in sandy areas. Would just shake the whole truck hopping along in the sand. Now it's pretty dang solid and smooth through the sand and washboards. Washboards aren't as friendly but still way better. New leafs and shocks do wonders. I can't even imagine how coilovers do. But for me as well, a little much for my needs. 5100's/ome are just a step up from oem and auto part chain options, but still a big difference and definitely worth it. I used to creep along the trails and sand. Now it just glides right along and can kinda mob through at decent speed without a worry.
