My wallet and your opinion don’t belong in the same sentence.

Personally all of these threads where you justify what you bought are ridiculous. Who cares? If you bought a truck based on what others think you are an idiot. Guess there are a lot of idiots looking for a group hug with other like minded people.

As a Ski and Bike bum my wallet thanks me for getting a badass truck that is also somewhat inexpensive. 4x4, stick, reliable, its what I was looking for and really was over budget but worth making it happen. loving my SR so far.

It's not about the price of entry for me, but rather, I'm a fan of simplicity when it comes to vehicles. I drive my vehicles until the price of a repair costs more than the vehicle is worth. With more complex vehicles, that bar is raised pretty high. I don't want electronic/digital dashes, climate control, electric seats, and other electronic/digital doo-dad's. Basic instrumentation, simple A/C controls, power windows and BlueTooth is all I really care to have. I'm even quite happy with the battle-tested 2.7L engine.

Every car I've bought in the last 10 years I've bought in a trim that avoids upgraded/automated/digital features. I like the fact that DIY repair is much simpler, and there's simply less to fail. Some folks need that "spaceship" cockpit, but it's not for me.

I love my SR but I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t have bought it if it wasn’t a manual. Toyota eliminated the only configuration of interest to me for 2018, so I’m going to cherish my 2017 for as long as possible.

In July 2016 I ordered a 2017 SR AC 4x4 2.7 MT in red with the utility package. That is what I wanted, so that is what I got. Nuff said.

I totally agree with that. (and I am loooong time Toyota fan boi...) Some gonga deals on fullsizes out there. Really hard not to considering jumping "The Land of the Rising Son's" ship...

...they really aren't all that Japanese anymore anyways, which made them great in the first place. Seems like there is a loss of quality control building them here and in Mexico, unlike the Made in Japan vehicles.

Seems like the Big 3 have really up the ante, and Toyota has dumb their's down. Really think perceived long term reliability and internet hype has kept them on top. And well, lack of competition. Though I will admit after owning them for so long the whole long term reliability lingers in the back of my head when I go look at other brands.

The other day I was wondering that if someone was super serious about building a truck to their own standards (and there are many awesome builds on this forum so that's not much of a stretch) if it would actually be cheaper to get more of a baseline truck and build it with all the brand name offroad lift and drive train parts then it would be to buy a truck that already has some pretty good stock offroad parts and then replace those with the same brand name offroad parts.

Not meant as a criticism, more of a thought experiment.

Honestly you don't even have to build them...a bone stock Toyota pickup has taken me many a place. That and so many guys that aren't satisfied with their OR's or Pro's...you can get a step above base model suspension pull-off's pretty cheap.

Most of the "builds" on here are for looks anyways...most will never even use it to its' full potential. Hell, most don't even need a truck...I sure don't...could get by with a little hatch back for 90% of the things I do.

2015 MY Tacoma Base Models were offered in an SR package which gave you color keyed Grill surround, mirror turn signals, smoked headlights, Color-keyed fender flares and black alloy rims. They were available with a 6MT and 4WD for Access and Double Cabs.

Thought they came with black fender flares? I looked at few used base 2nd gens ACLB models with the V6 MT that had black fender flares. Was the colored keyed version available in the convenience package?

The unpainted trim models were the convenience package. The SR package was a cheaper sport appearance package without a hood scoop.

That's the way to do it, all you need is some airlockers.

The SR is the cheapest and has pretty much everything you need

It’s a no thrills truck that runs great looks great and has less electronic crap that can brake

For ever a fan the SR

Even a base Chevy Colorado engine has more power about 200 HP and starts at $22k. Toyota really dropped the ball keeping the 2.7

When the new Ranger comes out it might be game over for Toyota in the base pickup market.
