Don’t forget, 4x2 has a slightly greater towing capacity (not that it really matters, just say’n)

A 2wd locked Tacoma can go anywhere a 4WD can. I watched a YouTube video on it

I bet this starement will lead to a very factual, subjective and controlled conversation

Ford people and OR noobs think an ORV needs to be 4x4. Just like when I moved out east and the toothless hillbillies looked at my LT 2wd like it was an alien. Ignorance is a thing still.

I use my 4wd ‘17 as a daily, I live in a snow state. The ‘01 2wd doesn’t take to snow so well. But if I were to be back in the desert, I’d choose my 2wd all day for gnarshred.

I post this pic in every ”I don’t get why 2wd...” thread

It’s true to a degree! Unlocked 4wd with unequal traction can result in one front wheel spinning and one rear wheel spinning, which is the same number of wheels with power as a locked 2wd. However, traction control can attempt (send small blips of power lol) to the none spinning wheel by applying brakes to the free wheel. This can create a weak 3-wheels-spinning phenomenon that maaaaay getcha out of a pinch.

There’s also when your rear hitch highsides you and neither your rear wheels can grab. That’s when even 1 front wheel can tug you forward a bit (if it doesn’t dig a hole and free wheel, but hey, traction control may kick in). This exact situation made me go buy a 4x4. Lol

Correct... there is no change in GVWR or GCWR. Just a decrease in curb weight resulting in higher payload, and as a result an increase in towing capacity.

Having just 2wd seems like it would limit access to many cool places. I live where it’s necessary but would still want it no matter where I lived

2WD IS limiting. It wasn't worth 3 or 4K bucks xtra for me.
If I lived in mud or snow, that'd be different.
As things stand and for where I hike and hunt, 156 hp, hi ground clearance 2WD works great.

Almost every sandrail is 2wd. Baja bugs are 2wd. most trucks in the sand are two wheel drive. Sand is a go fast environment where 2ws thrive and really comes down to driver experience that determines if you get stuck or not. And 4x4 sometimes just gets you stuck even deeper.

Friday for me already. Sitting just on the other side of the International Date Line.

I too need 4WD regularly where I live (see pic below), but I will always have a 4WD, no matter what. 4Lo has too many advantages. Plus, I am not a fan of 'gun 'er up that rocky hill'. 4WD primarily gives you control (in 4Lo especially) of your speed, which keeps you from smashing and bashing your ride.
