I don't think the V8 is necessary for the Tacoma. I would like to see the diesel brought over from the Hilux though. As for all the options, you can do most of the stuff your self. I get satisfaction out of doing my own mods. I bought the Tacoma because of the quality of the truck, not all the options that came with it. Those were just a bonus.

Agree to some point, but I don't know what others in it class have a V8, as far as I know, Rangers, Colorados, Frontiers, Mazda B Series do not have V8 option. I think the 4.0L on tacoma is about the most powerful between them. The only V8 I can remember was the mitsubishi pickup, which sucked for a V8 and I don't if they still make that truck.

I also don't think they are going to put much attention to the Tacoma right now when the 3rd gen will be out soon, who knows maybe next year?

I also believe that they charge too much for there TRD packages. You put options on top of the already over priced TRD packages, nobody would buy them, they'd buy a tundra.

If they put options on an SR5 nobody would by the TRD's cuz the optioned SR5's would be nicer and prolly cheaper

In short I believe it is all a marketing ploy.

Much of it does come down to taste but I think the GMC full sized trucks have a way better interior both ergonomically speaking and looks wise.

However the frame is the biggest issue. Luckly I have not had any issues but I do treat it. My bro has a Mazda diesel in central america and he beats the crap out of it. Diving on beaches through rivers, muddy conditions and other abuse. The roads are pot hole infested and most importantly he doesn't understand the first thing about maintenance and rarely cleans it and never cleans the underside. He has had it for 4 years and it does have some rust but it is minimal. Plus the truck has not turned into a rattle trap.

He tells me that Tacomas have little respect because they just don't hold up
compared to the other truck (hilux, land
cruiser, Mazda et al). Don't get me wrong --
I love my tuck but I do wish the did not tone
down the quality and stoutness/durability of
the tacoma for the sake of profit

Keep in mind while the colorado and dakota have v8's... they don't put in all that much more output than our v6 (especially for the fuel economy hit).

That is the truth - two more cylinders and nothing to show for it. So why would someone want them? As for the Chevy Colorado - anyone here actually try one on? I did, and I have felt better in a John Deere Gator.

why not come out the closet OP.... you sound like you hate the Tacoma..... I get a kick out the types that have to find something wrong just for the sake of bit*hing... go buy a domestic get the options you want pay more, and lose more resale value driving off the lot than the tacoma will in 10 years.... problem solved.

While its true th OP mentions nothing about quality. Resale value was not mentioned either so I'll just finish with this post and sorry for the hijack but resale value Does not equal quality of the product. It is more related to whT the market will support.

Any rate I think this is interesting

You want to be pampered with a grocery list on options .go buy a domestic...sorry BUT the way it has ALWAYS been.....:cool:

You want to purchase a vehicle that will go till you literally drive its wheels off...BUY A Toyota product......even their Lexus and Hino lines have set packages. ;):)

I have owned Toyotas since '81,put way too many miles on them and understand why they do the CE,DX,SR5,TRD and XLE models....So I can Afford to keep coming back to purchase them.;)...they cost pennies to maintain instead of dimes, they take care of the customer and hold their value better;bar none....

I agree to an extent. Yes to the leather, sunroof or even a nav option would be sweet... in other words bring back a "Limited" or even a "Platinum" edition and not some other no name edition that doesn't mean crap.

On the other hand, the competition has or is doing away with V8. We already get 17 miles to the gallon. What is our MPG going to be with a V8? Ford Rangers & the Nissan Frontiers don't offer V8. IMO, Toyota can simply just improve on its current engine.

We've all vented before about the lack of options, but seriously these are options that won't make or break the truck. I feel your pain though.

Agreed, the "fully loaded" price of a Tacoma is too close to the entry level price of the Tundra. Those options we would like : leather, navigation, sunroof, heated mirrors and a V8 would push up the price too much into Tundra territory.
