The off-road has the crawl control, atrac, and rear locker plus different braking system. That's not quite just an appearance package.

I realize that, but the dealers took significantly more money off of the SR5 than the OR... sticker price isn't everything. Also it was a 17' leftover for the SR5.

V-8 would be the ideal solution for most folk here imo. But that been said, I'm fully aware that those folk would want even more, and complain even more because at least for some, more is never enough. :D

The old Tundra back in '02-'06 was about the same size as ours is now and had a V-8 if I remember correctly. It could be TOYOTA is concerned that a V-8 will eat away at the Tundra sales, and it might.

But, people don't just buy a bigger truck just to get a bigger engine, they usually buy bigger because the either need or want more room. A supercharger for us maybe in the works, but its prohibitively expensive, at least in my book.

That said, I'm very happy with the power in my SR5 (auto) and all its glory, it really jumps at my command :)

In the instances where the two overlap, I can understand. But the Sport has trims and options that you cannot get in the Off-Road, such as an AC-MT, or AC RWD.

Yep it looked like an older 2nd Gen so that's probably it.

My 2x4 SR5 survived a Chicago winter. I was able to manage very snowy conditions with street tires and my grossly underpowered 4-cyl. And I’m from NC, so 2 feet of snow is a lot to me. Never got stuck in the snow thanks to these tiny tires and huge wheel wells. I think ultimately, it’s often (not always) driver error that leads to needed recovery.

I think the only thing my taco needs is some mods.

I bought an 4x4 SR5. I just need 4wd for work. Could care less abou JBL stereo, billstein shocks and mall crawling control knobs.

My buddy bought an OR that cost $12,000 more than mine SR5 did. It's never been off the pavement. I may steal his locker when he's not paying attention. He'd never even know......

Sport fit my lifestyle more than the off road. They're essentially the same exact truck, +/- a few options. Mine is used mostly for commuting so I wanted the road tuned suspension, and like all the extra bells and whistles that I get from the trd (push button start/, nav, leather trimmed steering wheel/shifter, and color coded accessories and of course let's not forget the hood scoop. Basically I liked the truck better so I bought it.

The off road is not better than the sport, they're the same trim level.. geesh

Billstien shocks/offroad suspension, locking rear diff, skid plates may not be 12k worth but it is not close to exact same truck.

I’m with you. It just fit my lifestyle better. I don’t do any crazy off-roading and anything and what we do for camping or in the mountains can be fully accessed just by turning on the 4x4. What it came down to for me is I just think the sports are better looking trucks. Color matched panels, hood scoop (I know it doesn’t do anything), bigger wheels, etc. I figured if I’m not doing anything crazy, might as well get the the one I liked better. Also, before people jump all over me I do understand why people would opt for the off-road and I know the benefits it has....it’s just nothing I would personally ever use.

12k? They're the same price point man. Sport has upgraded suspension (just like the OR but for road handling), skid plates, upgraded appearance, better rims, and all the creature features. THE ONLY difference is the difference in suspension (again sport is upgraded too) and OR has MTS and a locker. Oh and crawl, whereas the sport comes with the hood scoop, color coded fenders/bumper, and color matching front bumper. That's it. Otherwise exact same engine, 4x4 system, interior, bed size, cargo/towing capacity is the exact same.

If the SR5 or even SR offered a manual option, I would be driving one of those instead of a sport

Pretty sure you can get a ‘16 or ‘17 SR in a manual
