Why doesn't toyota put keyless start with a manual?

    this and that...
i had a 2018 corolla se that was 6spd manual and it had push button start, not too sure why they didnt choose to do so with the taco. i will say though, ive had toyotas push button start in a couple other vehicles but after having it in the corolla i wouldnt get it with a manual transmission ever again. it was finicky as hell and on top of that if you ever need to kick start your car for whatever reason...well that aint happening either lol. in the end lets just say that the push button start was optimized for automatics.

Why couldn't you use the push button to push start on a manual? Some sort of safety interlock?

I see nothing wrong with a keyed ignition. I have zero interest in a proximity key to be honest.

The feature I really dislike is the gear selection knob in the ram trucks.

The leaf has a similar one, gotta leave the key on to put it in neutral and as soon as it rolls forward it sets the trans in park.

Pain in the ass when you’re trying to get it on a rack or feel for bad bearings/sticking brakes.....

My 15 has a key, like it like that, no worry about key fob batteries or the system falling and having to reprogram the vehicle.

It is most definitely due to the clutch start cancel. Now, not being a transmission expert, how does a remote start even work on a MT? If you don't park it in Neutral, I don't get the concept...

And I won't troll, but why doesn't Toyota do a lot of things? Infotainment system sucks, first third gens didn't have self-parking, assisted cruise, etc. Because they put their money where it matters and that's the engine that will get you 300k miles with fluid changes alone. Every time I step into a Ford/Dodge/Chevy I feel like I'm in a "nicer" vehicle... it is what it is

can you bump start a manual with a push button start? because if you cant maybe Toyota actually was trying to keep the type of people who would want a manual happy.

You say people are too lazy but you’re complaining because you’re too lazy to turn a key to start the truck...

There’s a few simple, surefire ways to avoid seeing the future if you’re that concerned. The easier and less permanent solution is to just not waste time being bothered by little things like the lack of a push button start in a car. If you’re looking at buying a $35k truck you already live a life of luxury compared to plenty of people in the world.

    Lol... Luddites!

I'll never buy a vehicle with a key again. Proximity key is the best. Love reading the rationalization for Toyota cheaping out on the manual and not including the button. It can be done (Ford does it) but the choice was made not to by the bean counters.

I bought the auto simply because I wanted the button.

you cant jump start a manual with push button start. it just doesnt work. a battery malfunction light will display and your car will jerk from the clutch pop, but the engine will not turn over. seems like the first button push on the push start does not equate to having the ignition to the on position on a manual ignition if that makes sense.

That was my thought too. I know on the mustang forum I used to go on someone installed a remote start in their manual, didn't tell the dealer and when they got it serviced the dealer accidentally started it with the remote and it went into a wetland. Oops.

If they did that then there would be no reason to buy an automatic transmission model

Completely indifferent to keyless personally. I mean it's kind of cool I can touch my door handle and the truck locks and unlocks itself. I also like not having to grab my keys to start the truck.

Is it a big deal though? Not at all. I could just as easily go back to keys. If Toyota offered a keyed version for a few hundred less, I would have gone with that.

Jump start or push start? You can jump start a push button all day (Mustang push button). However, my 2005 Mustang GT (with a key, manual transmission) instructions state that the car cannot be push started since there is no electricity to the "Drive by wire" system keeping the throttle body closed. I think that's the reason you can't push start a modern car, not the ignition key vs. Button.

YMMV for Toyota, but the reason makes sense.

yeah. i was just stating my experience with the corolla. i dunno the technical know how behind it, just that it doesnt work. i assume it would be the same for all modern toyotas that have that push button start and manual trans combo. as for jump start with manual ignition and manual trans? yeah all day. no problem lol.

Please tell me this post is just to troll people, how lazy can you be? Is turning a key really that much harder than pressing a button?!?!? Especially from someone that drives a manual. Next you're gonna want a manual that shifts for you... Oh wait, it already exists.
