Why don't dealers know what they're talking about?

Both salesmen I bought my 2 Tacoma trucks (2 different dealerships) were very informed on the Tacoma.

they both knew a lot about the truck features and options. one question I had...the salesman said he did not know but would get me the answer...and he did.

now the sales mgr was a different story. on my 2010 Tacoma...the sales mgr was cool, and worked hard to get me a number on my trade. on my new 2012, the sales mgr tried to pull a fast one on me and I walked. he played all appoligetic..."sorry sir"..."our error"...yadda...yadda...

we made the deal. but he's a douch. and he knows I know he's a douch.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
This, majority of people that buy cars are so dumbed down they just have no idea, talking about the types that believe in blinker fluid and muffler bearings or the ones that have no idea how to even check their own oil. The dealerships feed of these types, they are a walking bank to them.

The stealership insisted on the fact that my TRD Sport Uprgrade "Wheels" were chrome...

He still didn't believe me when I pulled the "chrome" hubcaps off with my bare hands.

    Idiots.

Years back I was on a bowling team, joined the league by myself. Was placed on a team, one of the guys was a car salesman. One team dropped out of the league so each team would take a turn bowling against a blind score. When it was our turn one game we were behind by a few pins. The guy cheated, put down we made a spare in the 10th. I could not believe it. I said something to him, he told me you think we are going to lose to a team that is not even here? One of my team mates said to me I guess thats why car saleman get the bad reputatioin. Never forgot that.

Before deciding on my SR5, A dealer told me that TX or TX Pro's dont exist.....yeah.... I proceeded to show him a picture, showed it to the manager, and they still refused to believe that model exists... The next day, I spent the 5 seconds to search the toyota website and found the Tacoma TX/TX Pro link (apparently that dealer doesn't have access to google...), I sent the dealer an email and said 'can you find me this truck'? They responded pretty quickly .

I left that dealer, which was 1 mile from my house, and bought my SR5 from a dealer 50 miles away (best price)....Suckers..

    Yeah.
Tolerances on modern blinkers are way better than they used to be, so you can go with 0 weight for smoother blinking. No need to go synthetic unless you turn a lot, and the regular dino fluid gives them a brighter hue.

when i walked in to buy my truck, i told the sales being i was looking at a MGM sr5 they had in their inventory. douche decides to pull up in a loaded TRD OR. then i had a 10 min conversation about how the OR is nice but nowhere near what i asked for. needless to say they only had one sr5 on the lot that day. mine:D

When I was in the market for my Taco I looked at several trucks at various dealers and not one time did I find a salesman who actually knew the product. Every single time I had to educate the salesman on the basic features and combinations of options that each truck had. I was amazed at how many salesman didn't know the difference between an SR5, Sport or OR...most just mentioned the wheels and decals.

My father-in-law's company owns a Toyota dealer in SOCAL and I buy all of my vehicles there. They have all new sales people at all of their dealerships complete a fairly aggressive in-house course where they teach them about all of the makes and models before they're allowed to hit the sales floor, but they still have some idiots that slip through the cracks. Every time I go home he has me drop by incognito to look at cars and assess the salesman (since most of his employees don't know me since I'm only there once or twice a year). The last couple of times I've done that it's resulted in the salesman having to complete the "beginners" course again because I had to educate them about the vehicle.

    excellent point ^^^

I'm a 3rd gen carpenter...my grand dad and dad (when he was younger) used to wear a shirt & tie to work...and when they got to the job site they would change into their overalls.

tradesmen were highly respected back then. today the tradesman is an inked up...pierced faced...foul mouthed...dope smokin'...hung-over...know nothing punk...and they wonder why the wages are so low.

back in the 1980's...an older gent came on a jobsite in white overalls...a collared shirt & tie. of course most of the "men" on the job ridiculed the old man. I took to him like a moth to light.

he was there from a regional cabinet company to make some repairs to the cabinetry in a new multi million dollar home...I spent several days with him...and shadowed him as much as he allowed. I learned more than one trade skill from him.

I was younger than most of the guys there (in my late 20's)...and he was probably 50 years my senior. He told me, (paraphrase) "son, you are gonna have a long and successful career in carpentry/homebuilding...most of those other fools...they will end up in prison...dead...or selling cars"

    true story.
