Probably not. More a question of after a number of years using synthetic and seeing the types issues that came up, it was determined that the level of protection was there or possibly even that it performed better above a certain temperature. Synthetic is amazing stuff

My early 2020 has an external transmission cooler. The build date is 09-2019.

they don't come with a stand-alone atf cooler anymore. the radiator cools the ATF on the newer models. have you had problems with the transmission overheating?

It’s always gone through the rad. The external cooler was secondary.

I remember my xterra had this and it was a fail somewhere coolant was getting in the tranny on some I fixed mine before it could possibly happen. So I had to add an external tranny cooler and bypass the coolant lines that ran to the tranny. But hopefully Toyota doesn’t have this problem.

This has been covered in other threads with the same topic, but not yet covered here. The internal to the radiator is actually a heater for the ATF so the trans gets warmer sooner. Cold fluid some say is not good for the transmission. If the fluid gets too hot the internal radiator will also cool the fluid.
