Why don't more people go for 235/85's?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Offended your "proof" was attacked and you have no rebuttle.

That is literally the most incorrect thing I've ever read.

Depends on the tires. Not all are the same actual size.

My 265s were 30.5", and the 255s I like are 32", both measured by me, mounted and under load.

I meant 275/75/17, anyhoo.. sorry. :anonymous:

A buddy of mine had 235 85's under his Taco. They were E rated. Looked plenty good on the truck but the E rated side walls made the truck chatter like a fucking jackhammer with hitting any little imperfection in the road

Whew, or I don't care all that much about winning internet arguments.

Chill man. I got the info I needed and you are not contributing to the thread anymore other than being confrontational.

I bet there's not much difference in flotation between a 235, 265 or 285. They're all pretty close to a 32 X 10.5. Your traction is probably much more dependent on on the tread type and condition. But if you want tough, economical, lightweight tires, 235's are the way to go.

Why wouldn't you use a wider Tire and air it down and get an even wider foot print?

I'm just on the verge of needing to air down on the beach using the stock 245/75's.
265/75's, with their +1" width advantage, appeals to my laziness more than 235/85's. :bananadance:

I didn't say you couldn't. Just that everyone thinks that pizza cutters will suck in the sand.

I'm gonna go with 235's once my 265/70's wear out. Thinking about the same thing as @rcsteele I like the look on regular cabs as stated before

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
The most important thing is surface area. Most of the increase in surface area that occurs with lowering tire pressures is from the lengthening of the tread. It does widen too, but now you're pushing a wider tire through soft sand or snow.

Ok I'll throw my 2 cents in on this whole conversation. I have always run wide in the summer and pizza cutters in the winter. The road up here in NY suck in the winter. I always have run the narrowest tire I can with STUDS. Best for ice and snow around these parts. The summer I want all the tire I can get on the road. Handling is great with the wider one and the pizza cutters you need to be a tad more easy with. But I'm to the point in life that I'll get there when I get there. Just my ideas on the whole thing.

Anyone remember the Camel Trophy series Land Rovers? Pretty sure they ran something close to a 235/85.

And BFG mud takeoffs are readily available from those as well. It is the old KO mud tread pattern.

The reason I don't run 235's is because they look like this...

I'm not so sure, when I looked at the 235's, the spare tires looked awful wide. :p
