Examining other vehicles, I've seen rubber on top and under the spring in the front strut assembly. We only have the top rubber bushing with the bottom of the spring resting directly on the shock perch, metal on metal. Why?

Cost, and its 100% not needed. The coil never leaves contact with the bucket.

Typically insulators are for macpherson style strut though, they have more issues because the strut actually turns with the spring so you don't want it shifting.

That said lots of rear coil springs have it. Even Toyota Echos have it on the rear.

Interesting. I wasn't aware That was a MacPherson specific part. It makes since though considering a strut will have lateral movement in a MacPherson style linkage whereas our double wishbone setup should only have vertical movement, making the spring far less likely to slip around on the perch. Also, I probably should be calling the shock and spring assembly a 'coil over' as opposed to a 'strut'. I'm pretty sure strut is nomenclature reserved specifically for MacPherson. Appreciate the reply!
