Yeah, ive seen a few of those! Even after 12k some oil in some trucks still has high tbn. I just cant do it man! Id lose sleep! Lmao ive just got issues. After 3 months my ass starts to itch and I force myself to change it.

I just ordered a kit from blackstone to do an analysis on my trans fluid when I change it. Ill post the results when I get around to it!

Transmissions that "shift themselves" are witchcraft. Nothing good can come of them.

2020 AT here and I have no complaints. The only time I notice any of the supposed "gear hunting" is in cruise control on the highway, which I rarely use to begin with. Shifts like any other auto out there IMO. There is nothing wrong with these transmissions. The hate comes from the MT purists. It's as simple as that. I love driving a stick too (have an MT Mustang), but there are days I just don't want to mess with it.

Im absolutely in love with my truck. If i had to pick one thing to hate on, it would be the cruise control. My trans is butter smooth unless im really flooring it. Then it likes to shift a little hard lol.

What I've noticed when using cruise (with the radar activated), is that when the trucks slows down when you are coming behind a car, as soon as you get over to make the pass.... the truck "automatically" floors it to get back to the selected speed. THAT, irritates me, but it is what it is. It's very excessive and noticeable.

My sr5 doesnt have that feature, but it does sound very annoying. Im sure some customer research group thought thats what hundreds of thousands of mindless-drone drivers wanted.

Yep. It's that new "radar cruise" feature or whatever it's called. It's pretty cool, and I can see why it would be a hit, but I think I prefer the traditional cruise control. Luckily, I can just disable it and ride like that. Imagine your cruise is set at 75 mph and you are approaching a car on the highway that is travelling at 60 mph like an idiot. The radar "detects" this car in front of you and instantly starts to slow down. So you sit behind the car for awhile, waiting for the opportunity to pass. You're clear, you can now pass. You get over in the left lane and it "clears" the radar because now there is nothing in front of you. The truck then automatically FLOORS it, until it reaches the original selected speed of 75 mph. That's exactly how it works. I mean it's as if the damn thing is near red-lining itself just to get back to the intended speed. It's just way too excessive.

Yeesh, yeah that sounds pretty violent. But its a cool idea. My cruise works very similarly. It will damn near redline to maintain exact speed even if it slows down just a couple mph. Just a forceful cruise control.

The truck drives great but cruise control is ridiculous.
I get way better gas mileage just pedaling. Always hunts gears.

The auto transmission is geared too tall, has flat spots between gears and you pretty much have to floor it to get it to downshift. The ECT doesn’t do much to improve it.
I love this truck except for the transmission. Toyota should make the manual an option on all trims.

Why would they. There's no market as it is for MT. We are fortunate that they make them as it is.

Financially it makes no sense for them.

    You’re likely correct.

And the manual is geared too low, except for reverse of course, which is way too tall:confused:
