My biggest mistake was putting a Magnaflow catback on our 3rd gen. It just magnified the screaming.

Hmm. Odd. Struggled for another analogy. Edited though. Thanks for the heads.

My 2nd gen developed a pretty good lurch after towing so much with it coming out of the toll booths. I drove a 2500hd for work. Maybe just knowing what the actual towing scale is makes the difference between the gen2 and 3 not that big of a deal for me.

With that being said everyone also forgets felt forces have been reduced in the gen 3. Aka doesn't feel like you're doing 65 but you are. I holeshot with my gen 3 just as fast as my gen 2.

Not to continue this threads decent into a towing debate- but I personally love my 3rd Gen 3.5 with the 6MT for towing. I tow my 18' dovetail car hauler plus a few cars at least 3x a month without issue. I attribute that to having the right equipment and not living in a very mountainous area. The manual trans makes all the difference in the world, and I still net about 14.5 MPG Towing with my 285/70/17's pulling my car hauler and my bmw convertible on it (5200 lbs total). Also pulled my 22' Mariah DX213 deckboat in and out of steep ramps without issue.

    Thank you - something positive.

I myself cant decide on a 1st gen extra cab Manuel, or a 3rd gen double cab in auto. It's hard to justify paying close to 40k for a Manuel my wife cant drive :/

I had $32,280 out the door on my 2017 TRD OR MT double cab. Good luck!

To be honest, it was just a price point thing. I like the second gens... I'm not crazy about their interior but that certainly wouldn't stop me from owning one. I just couldn't justify spending "slightly less" for a truck with 50k miles on it. I just moved to Seattle and perhaps the pricing is even more crazy up here than everywhere else, but I was seeing 2012-2015 tacoma TRD OR for the same price as a brand new one.

I ended up paying 33k plus taxes and dealer fees for my 2017. Granted it came with a tow package, chrome exhaust tip ( not wanted but came with it), some Toyota rock protection film across the hood, and I'm sure a few other unnecessary tidbits. I just couldn't bring myself to pay 28k or 29k for a truck I liked a little less without a warranty and with miles.

Everyone arguing about towing is cracking me up.

    These are 6 cylinder trucks!

If you are regularly towing, buy a cheap towing rig or get a Tundra.

I'm a firm believer that a project goes a lot smoother with the correct tool in hand. If you are towing a ton of weight, but a vehicle designed for such. The Tacoma is a great vehicle in so many ways, I'm okay with it not being the absolutely best tow rig. It does just fine carting around my dirt bikes and camping gear, but that's all I ask of it.
