Hang in there man. I wanted a Tacoma for the longest time. And when I bought mine I wasn't even car shopping. I was actually with my friend who was looking for a car and saw Alice(my trucks name) sitting there. Ended up buying it that day.

Your time will come and it'll hit you when you least expect:D

i wanted to knock the sales guy out, he gave me his word he'd hide the truck, but it sold to another guy, for more than we settled on, I went to get my checkbook... I was pissed. Still kind of am, but what are you gonna do. I still have my bike, 09 R6, only transportation! I sold my 09 Infiniti Fx35 a few weeks ago, didnt want to, but needed a truck for work and thought itd be cool for play too, so pulled the trigger, didnt think itd take me THIS damn long to find my truck...

It took us almost 2 years to find our Tacoma. We gave up after our horrible experiences with dealers and sellers that changed their minds. We looked everywhere...even out of State. Finally, when we least expected it, we found a family who were having twins and needed to get a van in lieu of their Tacoma. Low mileage, mint condition, all the options we were looking for, and best of all...great price! Morale of the story: Be patient...your Tacoma will show up.

Took me 6 months to find mine and drove 400 miles one way to get it. I wanted a silver, x cab, manual, trd package, less then 75k miles, stock, and mint condition.

They are hard to find for sure.

I got lucky. Kinda hap hazardly started searching the first of this year. Went and looked at a few that were obviously dogged (the car lots hadn't even bothered to screw in the marker light, I mean come on). Saw an ad in the paper and figured I'd give it a shot, what could it hurt. Ended up playing phone tag with the guy for a greater part of a day, had wrote it off as a waste of time, when the seller called me back. Scheduled a time to look at it, after another guy was scheduled. Got there 5 minutes early, was asked if I was the 3:30 or 4 oclock one. Turned out the first guy didn't show until AFTER I test drove it (within the first block of driving i knew this truck was gonna be mine). Lucky for me, when I pulled the truck back to the guys drive way, I was able to talk the seller down just a little. The late shower tried to over bid me and the seller stood by me. I now have a decent truck with 115k on the clock. Older then I wanted, since it's a 97, but hey. Total search time to buy, less then two weeks. Could not do that again if I tried!!!

The reason you dont find any decent ones is because when people get them, they hold onto them because they last so long and are so dependable. just keep lookin.

    High demand.

I found many more double-cabs than Xtra cabs.

I guess I lucked out. I was under pressure to find one in two weeks (insurance), and got exactly what I wanted. Check out the Craigslist ads for Santa Cruz. There is a guy (Ray) who specializes in the them...and he was willing to be patient while I arranged to get down there.

Yes, I drove from Sacramento to Santa Cruz with all my tools and inspection stuff to check it out. I had to be ready to pull the trigger. I could not find any worth a darn in the greater Sacramento/Sierra area.

If you can swing it logistically, check it out. I have heard many stories on TW of people travelling a long way to snag a good truck.

I was planning on looking for months, instead in the first couple days of my search I found my Tacoma. It was at a dealership which made me weary, but I got a good price on a great truck. All of the other tacomas I found either had over 130,000 miles or were an automatic. Just got a keep good eye.
