This is depressing man. I found an 87 in really good condition, 22re, but I'm a bit skeptical as to the maintenance. I'm very meticulous with maintenance on my vehicles. I fear that not all sellers are!

To all first generation Tacoma buyers,

Here is another tip. First generations are now older than hell. Web sites like this one are not good gauges to judge the condition of first generation Tacomas. This site is full of Tacoma junkies and addicts that have meticulously maintained their rigs. The first generation Tacomas owned by members on a site like this are going to run like they are new, and look like they are new. Most of the first generation Tacomas out there have not had this kind of care.

    Good Luck
    Paul

Common sight lately is Toyota pickups towing other Toyota pickups that were bought in Northern states and then towed to Mexico (took this photo last week- 6 in a row- they were going 45 in a 65).
    IMG_0310.jpg

We sold a Toyota Highlander (2003) earlier in the year- sold first day for asking price- taken to the port in Houston and shipped to Nigeria. Certain years can be exported without tax implications in the US or the market they are going to...

Yep I live in a border town I see them towed like that all the time sometimes 3 deep. They get them nationalized and turned into Mexican trucks. They will go live their life in some mountains in Mexico.

I picked up my 1st gen '01 v6 4x4 xtra cab sr5 for about $4500 at auction. look at it now.

I picked up my prerunner 2wd for $4500. Had 205k on it. Going by a old oil change decal i found it had 185k way back in 2013 so was not driven much up until now. Hence probaly why the rad had a pin hole and the water pump started leaking on me. Got both those fixed along with a new T-belt and a new cat on the exhaust. Every part on it was factory toyota (aside new ngk plugs, fuel filter and some plug wires) the previous owner put on. I really don't think it had much done to it aside just oil changes, the rear diff oil was clean but i drained it and replaced anyways. About to do a drain and fill on the trans. Iam Hoping to see 300k miles now with no major repairs :)

I just wanna say that hood is badass. Also, yes Tacomas come in two varieties around here, regardless of generation. Group 1, normal mileage and normal condition with a crazy asking price. Beat to hell with 225k and maybe a decent buy. I almost went to Texas to find mine, but got lucky and found one only mildly overpriced in the local market.

I'm in Alabama and just bought a 2000 V6 Xtracab in TX. Good Carfax and I am a trusting soul. Had it delivered from Houston 2 weeks ago. Have wanted one since Marty McFly had one. Paid $8400 but the truck only has 112K miles. Forget about getting one for that price around here! That's why I bit. Slowly replacing fluids, plugs, wires. But I sure do love it!! :bananadance:

1st gens are pricier because they have been leaving the country by the hundreds. I live in Tucson Arizona and I work for a railroad company that I do not like to mention. The rail follows the I-10 interstate. If you ever drive that corridor you will not miss the convoys of 1st gens being driven to Mexico. One Tacoma with a half a Tacoma in the bed towing another Tacoma with another half Tacoma in the bed x3. They buy them in phoenix az at auction and then make the drive to Mexico but not on mexicos highways. They could cross the border in nogales south of Tucson but they don't. Thay stay on us roads with no insurance doing 50 mph son 75 mph roads. Half the time the tow vehicles brake lights don't work.
All that adds to less 1st gens for you and me.

Higher miles with maintenance records for a lot less money is what I settled on.

I'm conflicted because I almost want to find a TRD so I can have the locker. Is it worth the money?
