yeah. my statement is still factual. if you have a defective equipment ticket on your mvr, insurance companies will use it as a rating factor within 35-36 months. up to 60 months for discount purposes. you have to know insurance lingo.

if you received a defective equipment ticket in a commercial truck you don’t own, then it wouldn’t be on your mvr. but if it was your vehicle, it will be.

like i mentioned before, you can never say x company is always better/worse than other companies. it’s purely situational for each person. in fact, overall usaa is usually higher than other companies. your $75 annual mc policy is a steal too.

I've heard they are usually higher, but don't increase rates as much. Is that true?

So USAA and the other companies were lying to me? Because here’s the thing, after I got the improper equipment ticket, I continued to receive the same discounts months and years afterwards. My USAA insurance didn’t go up.

I also saw a statement you made below that USAA is among the most expensive insurance. I can’t wrap my head around that either, since I literally just shopped around last year. It was the best deal. Most of the folks I know who are eligible for USAA have it due to the low rates. I mean, if it was more expensive I wouldn’t have it. I can only speak to my experience here in North Carolina, but...facts.

in my experience, progressive is the most rate stable, geico is the most unstable. everyone else is in between, but your premiums at renewal are based upon over a hundred different factors. so that’s why i am also ahs reluctant to state absolutes.

sorry if i confused things. rating accidents, claims and violations are handled differently for new quotes vs renewal with your current company. for example, your current company may give you “forgiveness” benefits whereas a new company would not, if you quoted to switch.

and like i mentioned before, if you are quoting with companies, they don’t always pull your mvr and clue reports at inception. they may wait until later and nail you. or they may wait until you’re ready to pay and then...... surprise! your price just went up because they pulled your reports and things didn’t match vs what they entered into the quote.

the other scenario is that the defective equipment violation got busted down to a lesser offense on your mvr?

and to expand on the chargeability period. violations is typically 35 or 36 months for the premium. some companies offer safe driving discounts and they can go back 60 months to possibly disqualify you for those. so how accidents and violations effect you overall price is a complex calculation. there are probably another dozen or so ways they can effect your rate that you’ll never know about. like putting you in a different rating tier or risk tier.

so...... even if a company says you’re not going to get dinged for a violation within the last 60 months, you probably are in some fashion.

usaa overall seems to be higher than other companies, but i’m not sure if that has to do with any type of eligibility requirements on their end? maybe some customers get a different premium based off their status or connection to the military?

fyi - nc happens to be one of the most premium friendly states! enjoy those low prices!

I got a notice that Esurance is doing the same thing (15% though). I actually just switched to USAA today, my wife has it so it makes me eligible. Monthly payment is about the same but a lower deductible and better coverage overall

My father has worked for Farmers Corporate for nearly 30 years and told me to ditch Esurance as there's talk about them getting dropped from All State soon.

I never had any trouble with them in ~3 years I had them, but I also never had to make a claim

That's nothin. I got my bill from Travelers today and they waived the $5 buck a month service charge for installment payments. I'm going to Disneyland.

progressive is crediting or refunding 20% of your april and may premiums. also suspending billing if requested.

and if you’re on a usage based plan (miles), contact your company and let them know if you’re not driving as much.

I pay in full every 6mos and my premium for 2 vehicles was sub-$500 so I'm probably only getting about $40 back haha

We actually checked out USAA and our AAA rates beat theirs. We have our home and vehicles with them

If this is truly what happened to you , you should not only drop that company , but also call the home office and strongly complain about the behavior of this agent. He/she should have their ass called "on the carpet" for this lack of customer service!
