if you want to make it back home you also take the Tacoma, even how older it is compared to the Audi.

My '97 could beat a newer Ranger when running in Mexico ~20 years ago. Only time it felt slow was when it blew out a plug going over a pass in CO.

I love my low end torque. It feels pretty nice getting up to 40ish mph. Though it's pretty bad when trying to go up a hill at highway speeds, and trying to overtake at the same time. Even on the interstate I would say.. where the speed limit is 75 and you need to get up to 85ish to pass someone quickly.

My Audi has been very reliable, even though I'm pushing double the horsepower and torque it came with from factory. Not sure what you're implying.

I think it's because some audi models are known for being unreliable. Some though, are pretty reliable

Yeah and we know how reliable the lower balljoints are on Tacoma's.

They're pretty reliable as long as OEM lol. The factory ones I had lasted about 265k miles before I put some new ones. Given what I've seen on here though.. I'd say they last a minimum of 150k miles

Yeah I went ahead and changed mine with OEM when I bought the truck at 160k miles.

Do they just fail as a DD or is this massive issue a result of off-road abuse?

From what I've seen, they usually fail in low speeds when you're just cruising or hitting the grocery store. I don't recall seeing a failure on the trails. The service manual says to swap them every 100k anyway.

All these "If YoU wAnT A rAcE cAr, DoN't bUy A tRuCk" should drive every other non-Toyota truck that actually has some skoot. Tacomas are dogs, and the there's nothing wrong with wanting a truck that actually moves when you press down on the accelerator.

I remember my old '98 Ford Ranger with the 4.0L V6, that bitch hauled ass. Compare that to my 4.0L 2G and it makes me a little sad actually.

Then there was my 6.2L V8 F250, fuck me that thing was fun to drive even despite it's size.

All of the talk about LBJs stem from a recall they had on them on the 2001 - 2004 models.

The recall happened cause of all the Tacoma's going Lighting McQueen all over the place. #kachow

In my opinion they’re close to a non issue when not ignored. It’s just a giant talking point that is valid but overblown.

I remember back in 1998 one of my friends purchased a new 3.4 4x4 Tacoma. At that time right out of high school I was driving a TBI 350 square body Chevy 4x4. I was super impressed with the Tacoma, it would run circles around my Chevy. Twenty something years later of course its not a rocket compared to newer vehicles, but in its time it was no turd.

I don't know about it being overblown. FSM says to change them every 100k miles and we have people well into the 200k's on stock ones. Are they lucky, or are LBJ's not as unreliable as made out to be? Either way, that's playing with fire.
