Why is there two different types of the same engine in the SR and different towing numbers?

this is the SR engine I have coming with my 4x4 DCSB next month. I have heard on different channels some SRs can only tow half of the 6000 pounds the other i4(non hybrids) can tow. I cant find any specifics to know if my SR has the engine that can tow 3000ish or the 6000ish limit. I do not have the truck yet but nobody at the dealer knows either lol

SR has the non-beefed up engine (228 hp).

I'd go with what you can find in writing, not a YouTube video. The owner's manual would be the best source.

Based on the actual Toyota link above, your SR will have a towing capacity of 3500 lbs.

Also, I recognize you: are you buying yet another Tacoma? What happened to the one you were going crazy about? Also, knowing that you are fairly particular about your vehicles, why would you go for the bare bones base model?

The SR 4x4 6MT variant has a towing capacity of 6400 lbs.

All other SR variants are derated to 3500 lbs.

Page 203 of the owner's manual.

Well I was a little concerned seeing as I just towed this uhaul trailer last year with my 3rd gen(

    Capacity
    • Volume: up to 396 cu. ft.
    • Max load: 2,480 lbs.
    • Gross vehicle weight: 4,400 lbs. max.
    • Empty weight: 1,920 lbs.))
And just wanted to make sure I could do it again, seems like 2500 pounds is well within the capacity of my new SR. Now here is the question, why in the hell did they make the SR with the exact same engine in the sr5 on up(besides the hybrid) have lower HP and torque? Wtf it would take LESS effort to keep it the same lol

And worse than the v6 in the 2023, so not only do you not get the reliability of the v6 non turbo, but you get LESS HP and torque too? I thought there is only two versions of this engine, why is there a third spec with this MUCH lower HP/torque? The same exact truck with a manual transmission instead of auto has the "real" turbo 4 banger specs but the auto doesnt? Wtf

    i-FORCE 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 engine
    Horsepower (hp @ rpm)
    228 hp @ 6000 rpm
    Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm)
    243 lb-ft @ 1600 rpm

Intentionally detuned to prevent the price-leading SR from becoming the popular trim.

I've see an XC SR5 for $45,000 compared the XC SR those are right under $40k. Toyota makes real easy to go across the street and pick up that GMC reg cab short bed, or Ford Maverick.

Toyota also needs to get at minimum 10 more HP on the Pro. The Pro puts out the same specs as the other hybrids, and compared to most other HEV Tacomas the Pro has more mass.

I believe you're looking at this wrong. The empty weight of the trailer is 1920 lbs. 1580 lbs would be the max you could load with an SR without exceeding the maximum towing capacity (1920 + 1580 = 3500 GVW).

    Isn't it in your manual?

I don't think the SR has an oil cooler.

From what I understand the detuned turbo doesn’t have a liquid cooled air intercooler.
