I sell and buy on ebay a lot, I only use USPS when I can. There shipping prices can't be beat and they blow away the other carriers on shipping time. They definitely dropped the ball this time, it happens.

hit it right on the head. they don't have to be quick, unlike fed ex and ups if they lose customers they don't go out of business. us the taxpayers will continue to fund them.

Yup. Even if they are not managed directly by Uncle Sam, they are still funded by taxpayers. Therefore, they do not necessarily have to be competitive or timely for that matter. I love my country, but man, can the bureaucracy fuck things up. Not trying to get on a soap box, but thought this was worthy of bitching about for minute or two.

Here is the quote from Wikipedia:

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the United States government, established in 1971 as an "independent establishment of the executive branch", responsible for providing postal service in the United States. It is one of the few government agencies explicitly authorized by the United States Constitution. Within the United States, it was formerly referred to as the "Post Office" or "U.S. Mail". It is currently referred to as the "Postal Service", and officially as the "U.S. Postal Service".

Still part of the government...and it shows. Their tracking system is archaic and pretty much useless, most of their employees act like they could care less and if you use slow services like media mail, you may be waiting weeks and weeks for things to arrive.

*edit* That wikipedia article states they haven't been directly funded by taxpayer money since the 80s...buuut have been borrowing from the federal treasury for some time too.

Since its reorganization into an independent organization, the USPS has become self-sufficient and has not directly received taxpayer-dollars since the early 1980s with the minor exception of subsidies for costs associated with the disabled and overseas voters. However, it is currently borrowing money from the U.S. Treasury to pay its deficits.[3] The decline of mail volume, due to the increased usage of email, has forced the postal service to look to other sources of revenue while cutting costs to maintain this financial balance.
