Since I got the 4 banger, it was the fact that the Toyota has a timing chain vs a belt.

Toyota offers diesel engines in the Hilux in other countries. that is their version of Tacomas. probably gets awesome gas mileage and tremendous torque with that diesel engine. would like to see those here in the US...

Nissan has done it, just not in the U.S.A. We have them in Jamaica.

x2 The fronty looks better on paper, and may even be better for hard pulling (it's heavier). But man, the taco plain hauls balls. I couldn't resist and paid way more for a taco.

I don't think either truck is like the old Datsuns and HiLuxes. Those were built in Japan to be exported to places where there is NO service infrastructure. These models are built specifically for the North American market. Higher performance, more amenities but mechanically less robust.

Tacoma's are only made in the US. every where else there Hilux's

My bro has an 06 Frontier and My 00 Tacoma is way better. I mean who still uses torsion bars in a 4x4?

Just to educate you a litte, "japs" is a derogatory term similar to calling an African American a n*****. I would think twice about using that term again before you offend any more people.

because only pussies like steel beds with big payloads...

real men opt for the tiny rubbermaid tray, and the 600 pound in bed payload...

at least.. I know I will!

I'n all truth, the taco has a better build quality (slightly) Is known for being one of the best 4x4s money can buy... and there is loads of shit you can do to it.

if I never modified and never wheeled, I'd be fine with a fronty. but I do. so I'll be getting myself a taco the SECOND money permits...

Thanks for taking time to ask. I don't want to start a whole history lesson, but you can wikipedia it and it give a brief summary. It hits harder with those Japanese Americans that experienced internment camps. It's not really an abbreviation.

I work for Nissan, but bought a Toyota. I could have bought a Frontier below cost at a super good price, but the Frontier is just kinda boring to me. It has good features but the Tacoma just looks way better and seems to drive and handle better. Man do I hear the bs from my coworkers everyday though lol. I park my truck on our lot, next to the Frontiers and I can't count how many times customers come on the lot looking at the Frontiers and ask if the Tacoma on the lot is for sale haha.
