Different states tax leases differently. Here in PA they tax it monthly 9%. Super weird.

To some, yes I agree. I could swing it and keep the extra money in my savings. I'm not the brightest bulb in the bunch but I got a shiny new truck :anonymous:

Sorry on a lease cap cost reduction is down payment plus applicable rebate to reduce monthly payment. So when ad says, “$3,999 DAS” that’s what I’m referring to. Gap just covers the difference between payoff and value, it doesn’t cover your down payment

That is absolutely the best advice. You will pay the same, cap cost reduction or not. That big payment, or should I say lack there of, in the beginning is divided by the length of term (usually 36) and added to your payment. You can keep that money in an interest bearing account and just take some out and add it to your payment each month. Let it make you money rather Toyota Financial, its not much but take what you can get.

Yeah typical. One person sees some cars at his local dealer and thinks they aren't selling without any data. Must have been born during covid when dealers had no cars and certainly can't remember pre- covid when dealers needed satellite lots for all the inventory.

I guess people forget that up till early 2020 lots had a decent selection of vehicles, like 8+ for each model. Supplies are starting to "normalize" and everyone thinks nothing is selling. Although with prices they aren't selling say 2019 levels, but a good many.

I do notice certain models (at least in my area) like the Camry they can't keep on the lot. Forget trying to buy a new Sienna.

Speaking of the TRD OR and TRD OR Hybrid as separate categories in this context is disingenuous.

Did you forget there's a Sport Hybrid as well? Click on the Power BI link and zoom in on the pie chart. Sport hybrid accounted for 0.7% of sales, while OR hybrid accounted for 1.1% of sales. It doesn't change the fact the Sport outsells the OR by four percentage points.

Gasser only: 27% Sport, 23% OR
    Gasser + hybrid: 28% Sport, 24% OR

With 4th gen, it seems the SR5 is taking a bigger slice of the pie because of its lower price.

The chart you posted shows around 124K Tacomas. They've sold around 36K so far this year and 192K last year. So what is that chart representing?
These are current numbers from the same source that shows inventory. There are more ORs on the lots than Sports, so I don't know why there are incentives vs the Sports. Assuming Toyota builds based on popularity, ORs are the most popular.

I think they finally equipped the SR5 in a way that appeals to more buyers, as well as stripped down the base TRDs. I never would have bought an SR5 in the previous gens, but now you can buy an SR5 that is better optioned than the TRDs.

According to the description in the first post, Toyota's 192k figure included leftover 3rd gens delivered to dealers in 2024; this data does not. It also excludes HI and PR sales as they're said to be in separate systems. It's nonetheless very representative data for the lower 48.

More built-up inventory means less demand relative to supply, so that implies OR needs bigger cash incentives to sell than the Sport. The Sport sells faster than the OR (sits for fewer days on dealer lots):

    upload_2025-3-30_11-50-42.png

Toyota also adjusts/groups the production mix to account for parts availability and production efficiency, so monthly or quarterly data can be too volatile. Need to look at full-year data.

If you are going to lease with toyota, dont put a "down payment" use the MSDs

I had to have a manual transmission with minimal options. Lower load rating of the SR killed that as an option, so it was between the Sport and Off Road. Priced basically identically, but the OR seems to be a better value with its more expensive shocks and lockable diff (though in 4LO only!). In the Sport you are paying for that ridiculous fake hood scoop and larger diameter wheels (= more expensive to replace tires, more likely to damage a wheel). I find the street and highway ride of the OR to be surprisingly good. My three biggest beefs are the infotainment and safety systems and the inability of the truck to put its power down. This is my first pickup truck, and I guess accelerating quickly from a stop is just something trucks cannot do.

Can you explain what you mean by “put the power down?”

I literally thought I was in the 3rd Gen sub forum.

Sure: my 2025 TRD Off Road has 4HI and 4LO (with selectable differential lock in LO). All of those modes are useless around town on dry roads. So I have to be gentle with the throttle and clutch to avoid spinning the ONE rear tire. This is inconvenient when I want to accelerate rapidly, such as when pulling from a side road or parking lot into traffic, especially if the pavement is not clean. My previous vehicles, including a bog-slow Forester, put their power down better so they could get from 0-30 or 50 mph much faster than this brand new Taco can.

With the Manual Transmission, the SR gets the same engine horsepower as the Sport and Off Road.
