Are you referring for your 3rd Gen 2019? If so the Hikari ultras are the best I have tested in a 3rd Gen projector, though they are outperformed by performance halogens. But this thread is dedicated to 1st and 2nd Gen reflectors, which are very different.

For 3rd Gen check out this thread:

Oh my mistake, yeah I have a 3rd gen. Didnt notice this was for 1st and 2nd gen only.

Since this is a couple of years old, has a better halogen bulb been produced? Looking to get more usable lighting in a 1st gen.

See this thread for H4 bulb recommendations out output intensity charts:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ultimate-headlight-upgrade-h4-not-led-or-hid.398066/

Best bulbs without a standalone harness:
IPF Fatboys 60/80w (80w low beam) - While higher wattage low beam the high beam is stock allowing these to run on the factory wiring. They are the highest performing plug and play bulbs that do not require a harness. They are very expensive.

Philips Racing Vision +150 - These have the highest intensity low beam for a stock wattage bulb, but the high beam has a blue coating over it which will reduce high beam output.

GE Xenon +120 - These have the highest intensity stock wattage low beam without a performance robbing coating over the high beam.

See output charts in the above thread for how these compare. Adding a harness to even stock wattage bulbs will increase output by approx 10-15%.

So what is the process to put the IPF fatboys in with stock harness? and is it a significant upgrade?

In short, unplug your OEM bulbs and plug-in the IPF Fatboys; and yes. The longer answer, available in the referenced thread and the post you quoted...

I've read that thread a bunch... I've been on the fence of putting the wiring harness in. I guess I just didn't realize you could get the same performance from the stock harness as with the higher voltage harness.

So, since the 3rs gen has a separate low and high beam, does the ipf fat boy go in the projector housing or the high beam location?

Oh! 3rd Gen should see the 3rd Gen headlight thread. Check out post #2 in that thread. Philips H9s are the best performing low beam bulb in terms of output intensity. The H4 2nd Gen thread does not apply to 3rd Gens, since they take H11/H9. And no harness is needed for 3rd Gen.

    +1.

    Apologies, @kperatt09 - I missed that you're in a 3rd Gen.

You guys are good, I didn't know if I could go H4s or not.
I've had Fatboys in a Jeep before and they are awesome, so I was hoping I could get them in my 3rd gen.

@crashnburn80 I love that 3rd gen lighting thread. I am actually running the H9s right now because of it.

    Thanks guys!

Seeing this is disheartening.. :( I wanted some clear HID's because a buddy of mine runs them and his lights are super bright and clear. I would like something better than stock but I'm very inexperienced.

NHK's newest LED projectors are looking up to par compared to HID. Only thing missing is a foreground limiter.

I've personally ran a bunch of different LED's and they all worked great... until they all pretty quickly started to dim out. Now I'm on Diode HID's on my 3rd gen and they are awesome!

Definitely pass on anything TacomaBeast aka Spyder. Some of the worst performing headlights on the market, those will be a huge downgrade. Those are also not LED, they are just a poor quality halogen projector. At this time there are no assembly upgrades for a late model 2nd Gen. Best hope is for Morimoto to release an XB headlight for 2nd Gen. If you are just looking for brighter, follow this:
