You must live on the Moon because everyone wants a manual old FJ or mini or 1st Gen or even 2nd Gen.

The autos always sell the slowest and for less.

Ummm nope. In your small circle of MT buddies, for sure fellas are looking and hoping, but in the general population looking to purchase a 4-8 years old Tacoma, you can’t give the MTs away.

Be that as it may, but I’ve scoured autotrader, Craigslist, eBay and several other sites for the past 20+ years and it’s just not the case from what I’ve seen.

Post some MT trucks sitting around not selling. I’d be interested in looking.

I sold my 03 with a manual in literally less than two hours. I posted it on Craigslist, and 30 minutes later I got a call from one person. They wanted to look at it the next day. 45 minutes later I got a call from another guy who said he can bring the full amount in cash and he bought it 2 hours after I posted it. It sold faster than I could think about my decision. I do wish I still had it though... So yeah, you can pretty easily give them away, at least up here in northern California.

EDIT: I think a very major factor in how well MTs sell has to do with your area's geography and how trucks are usually used in your area.

I am all about the AT. I think I have moved beyond the need to operate levers. I mean we don't use a hand crank any more to start the engine, no needing to shift gears is a natural progression. I'll give up a mile per gallon for the convenience on not having one leg screaming from use after sitting in rush hour traffic. Yes the engine braking while going down hill in 4 lo is something you give up with in a manual, but I would rather brake with my brakes rather than put the stress on my drive line. I see a MT as an exotic girlfriend. Fun at times, but not real practical for every day life.

I sold my MT 2002 in 20 minutes after posting it online in 2014. The guy paid the deposit then emailed me asking if it was a scam. He brought me $12,500 in 20s to my bank, had to count it three times. He was a happy mofo and I was sad until 2017.

I agree with you. And, if you add the OV gearlock tune you have the best of both worlds.

I learned on manual and my first few vehicles were all MT. Then one day, I had to cross Seattle on my way north. After 2.5 hours in traffic only achieving 2nd once I vowed to give AT a try. I still love driving MT but for DD, AT is where it's at.

March 31, 2017, I bought the only MT TRD Off Road dbl cab on the ground in the Southeast. Traded a full size gmc. Had to rebuild the automatic in the gmc, after 120,000 very light duty miles. The truck never pulled more than 3500 lbs. Turns out it was a fairly common occurrence. Going to a smaller truck, I wanted to make sure I was covered pulling a 15' aluminum flat bottom boat, or my 14' trailer w/ 2 4-wheelers on it. I'd heard stories about the automatics in the 3rd gen, so I wrote it off before I even started shopping.

The only time it gets under my skin is long stints of stop and go traffic (4th of July weekend, Mobile Alabama comes to mind)....that was a 4 hour cluster of 20mph or less.......

If your battery dies, you can still start a MT (provided you can get it rolling).

I like MT on regular driving, fixes the issue with the shitty at transmission and most of all it’s more fun. Saw a video that said AT with CC and all that is easy to off-road in but the MT is a lot more fun. I couldn’t agree more.

I try to baby it too, but if your driving stop to stop short distances in the city and dont get on the freeway thats about what its going to show for your average.

The MT is pretty clunking 1st, 2nd and 3rd.. Runs like a truck IMO...4th 5th.. etc shift really smooth for me, just need good speed.

I believe Toyota built these MT for towing not pleasure. I just like having control, and the reverse placement ( left up ) is fucking terrible.
