I like manuals and I like autos just depends on the situation. However I do not like CVT automatics.

Yes. They made the Caravan in an MT for a short time. I even think that a turbo was available with it?

There was a guy on YouTube that would post killer 1/4mi times with a turbo Caravan.

Our first was born in 2003. We needed something more reliable than the Dodge product we had at the time. :D

I'd say screw the MT considering the MB. No thanks. I'm done with Euro vehicles.

But yeah, I like to row, even in heavy traffic.

I love rowing the gears. Most of my vehicles have been MT’s. One exception, a BMW X3, had a great auto transmission. Otherwise, I’m generally disappointed in them for driving pleasure.

I had an MT Outback and loved it. I have driven the new Outback with CVT and don’t think it’s half bad. But for my last 2 performance cars—‘17 WRX and ‘18 MX5–a manual was the only way to go.

Does anyone double-clutch downshifting is hard to do on this transmission? It feels like the synchros still do some work no matter how close the RPMs are sometimes.

This thread actually taught me something: the MT is cheaper than the auto. I never optioned the AT when I was shopping for mine. Looks like it's about $1k. I know ATs historically has been a costly option. Today, given the prevalence of the ATs I figured the opposite might be true.

AT vs MT is personal preference but for me it's MT for sure, even in traffic. Love the control and rowing the gears.

My first car had a torque converted automatic. My second was a manual. All since have been manuals. I prefer it in all cases, simple as that.

Torque converted autos are disgusting and I'll probably never own one again. I could do a dual clutch in the right car but I'd still prefer to have a 3rd pedal.

I actually drove the AT prior to the MT, it was kinda relaxing and boring. Lol. What I didn't like about the AT the most was with every AT, that dumbass lag when you stomp on it. The fly by wire throttle doesn't help it any either. Wanted the MT for nostalgia and I'm a DIY'er. Clutch replacement is so much easier than with AT servicing.

I love my manual vehicles. But the only time I regretted owning a manual was when I tore my labrum and rotator cuff in my my shoulder. I couldn't drive my manual FJ for nearly 2 months. But I drove my woman's automatic only a month after surgery.

Injuries can and do play a role. It would suck if a serious injury happened out on the trail and a manual transmission would limit your ability to drive back home.

My next ride will probably be an automatic.

It seems I’d rather replace a clutch than change the fluid on an AT.

Somebody once brought up the injury scenario. If you want to get home, you’ll get home. You can drive a manual with the left hand only. I’ve sucked it up with a torn acl and meniscus injury left leg, and then sucked it up after acl surgery and removal of said meniscus. The “cut you all the way open” knee surgery, not the “little baby hole using tweezers” kind. Oh yeah.

Eta not minimizing your pain levels, just stating that if you NEED TO, you probably will make it out

I have always preferred a manual transmission, for the fun and accurate power distribution. I would also like my daughters to be able to drive a manual transmission vehicle in case they ever need to (like anywhere else in the world) and plan to teach them in the next 5-10 years in this truck. I’m afraid of the day that the US can’t generate enough demand to justify automakers offering a manual transmission in a fun vehicle.

I've taught several of my friends kids how to drive a manual in my Tacoma. It's pretty forgiving.

This. If you ever rent a car in Europe, they just about only offer MT.
