Looks very high. Like a pole or something fell on it. Maybe a huge high truck could have done that. Look at some of the HD trucks or equipment they rent in the lot to see if they match that height and have your paint on them. Was a landscaper in the area ? Grass freshly cut ? Were you next to a maintenance area, grass, etc ?
Too bad you can't review tapes and see who is leaving the store with large items at that time like a 4x4x12 or is walking to that area at that time with such.

Not likely. Today people have no guilt or remorse because they have lost themselves. All their friends are on a small screen in their pocket and they feel powerful and entitled to do whatever they want. I can’t believe how many door dings my wife has gotten in our Subaru. People just suck.

One thing you might try is getting the BAMF bolt on rock sliders. My taco doesn’t get door dings or hits because they stick out 1” past the door. I do see where people have hit them (barely on the powder coat) and I can tell you that I’m certain their vehicle suffered damage and mine didn’t

It's nice to think that nobody was hurt, its just minor damage and they'll get theirs one day - but in reality the OP will either have to pay out of his pocket to fix the damage, or incur higher premiums if he goes through his insurance company. OP do whatever you can to find out who caused the damage so they can make restitution if that's at all possible.

Lol I was thinking that it was a "lifted" type truck too considering how high the impact was. Let's just say I spent like 30 min rolling around the parking lot to see if there was any matching damage on another vehicle...

I will definitely post an after picture. There's still a visible indentation , might have to redo my work thoroughly one day, just so I don't constantly look at it everytime I get in my taco...

Should we start thinking about dash cams?
They can’t cost much by now.

Ive got mine.. and its a welcome sense of security that I hope to never use. Now if USAA would just get on board and give me a discount for having it..

Dashcams are awesome. Some of the better ones will still run with the truck off and have shock and motion detection to record what happens even when the truck is parked. And low voltage cutoff to prevent a drained battery.
Sorry about your truck. I hate people...

Let’s hear from someone with a nice setup like the one listed above.
    Details.

I have the BlackVue 650 2 Channel both front and back. I hardwired everything and it is running through a battery controller to my accessory battery. Has parking mode with motion sensors as well. Works great, but I want to get a bigger card for it, as the 8gb car that came with it only gives me about a day of recording before auto deleting stuff.

Yep. Watch some reviews on YouTube on the blackvue cameras. Pretty impressive playback software too with the G shock sensor and GPS mapping.

Exactly what I was looking for. Great addition to this post.
How long did that set up take you?

Took me about an hour to completely do myself, initially I just tucked the wire along the headliner to the rear camera, although I later shortened it up when I had the whole headliner down. It does run constantly off the accessory battery, it has the pro pack so it will shut itself down at low power, but with my panel on the roof, it would take several days of hiding in the dark before it gets low enough to kick off.

Seems like every time I park out in the boonies to avoid people, some one will inevitably park right beside me. Every time I pull into a parking garage I cringe at the door dings that await me when I get back.

Problem with dashcams is that they only record what they are pointing at and most people point them out the front window. If you get fancy, you can do back too. But that wouldn't have helped much for this guy if it was side impact. Maybe, it might have started recording on impact and then maybe it got their tag as they sped off... Maybe.

I used a Street Guardian in my 07 and it worked really well but did turns off when engine is off. My next one will be the Kenwood when I get the HU swapped out. That one does record on impact when engine is off.
