So every Toyota 4x4 I have ever had, I have put armor on for rock protection. 2nd gen pickup, first gen 4runner, 80 series LC all had rear bumper offerings that were steel, had rear side panel protection "wings" that had supports that either bolted or welded to the frame behind the rear tire.

I have not been able to find anything for a 3rd gen tacoma with this. All of the bumpers with wings require you to chop off part of your bed, which is a little ridiculous. Cutting a bumper in the front is one thing, but cutting your bed and not bobbing is kind of stupid. I get it, you get a little more clearance, but why hasnt a company offered a bumper that goes over the panels, and is supported near the tire with something that ties into the frame?

IF there is something out there like this, can some one point me in the right direction?

Maybe a vendor who is fabbing rear 3gen bumpers will respond.

Often when something is not produced its because

    1) its an original idea

    2) there is no demand, or not enough to make margin

    3) the design or prototype shows production costs to be high enough that making margin would create an unattractive price point based on knowledge of previous similar sales choke points

I do see the one downside beign that the wing on the bumper would protrude from the bed a few inches. That being said, I personally wouldnt mind that at all. It wouldnt stick out any further than the fender flare really anyways. The wing should sit on the outside of the body and the bottom of it should attach to the frame for support.

Haha! well at least with a front bumper, if you ever decide to go back to stock or change your mind, you can just replace the plastics... with a bed that you have cut you are kind of SOL

Yeah dude, that looks like straight garbage. haha they are on the right direction with the side protection though. It can be done without cutting your shit up!

This is what I had on my 80 series. Plain and simple. No weird stuff or craziness. To be honest, with the tacoma I am not even planning on swing outs. They were way too much of a Pain in the ass on my 80.
