Why no rear fog lamp on vehicles in USA when everyone loves front fogs?

There's a few cars with them. Like cocks in Audis, they're on 24/7 also.

The US is so far behind on lighting requirements and regulations that it is absolutely laughable. The FMVSS has needed a lighting update for decades.

This thread has certainly fallen into the hands of people that think seatbelts are just their to make it easier for the morticians to collect your body.
I have had cars with rear fog signals and its cool, took me a while to figure out what the hell was going on since it's so un-conventional by American standards. It's a unique feature with a unique purpose but...that said, I don't know if it is really necessary.

I used to live in Germany and had a 1994 BMW 520i. It had rear facing fogs (red). I've also been in various Southwest Asian countries/middle east etc... It's a thing across the world, just not in America for some reason. It's for safety.

For any of you who are wondering the validity of this thread...

Do you get annoyed following granny when she is driving with both feet? Well, it's the same when peeps run rear fogs.

Make the world a slightly better place, and keep it off unless you are in low vis conditions?

This thread is the perfect example of why rear fogs aren’t a thing in America. 99% of people are clueless about them even though vehicles have had them for ages now.

Yeah I understand that. Just didn't know how it tied back to the euro fog.

Kinda like the third brake light.

Why do we need a third brake light, if u can’t see the two that are already there you need your eyes testing ;)

Apparently Texas thought that, cause they only made it a requirement a few years back

Audi used to have rear fog lights on their cars and discontinued it a few years ago. I don't think Americans understand the safety feature and/or don't know when to use it appropriately. They are blindingly bright, that's why they are effective in the fog. I liked them when I had them.

    >"These dumb yanks don't know what a rear fog light is!"
    >Confuses fog lights with driving lights
Fog lights have a wider spread and illuminate the area immediately in front and around the truck. They are not brighter and do not have further reach than the low beams. They're not supposed to be switched off for oncoming traffic, since they shouldn't be a glare issue. Aftermarket driving lights, on the other hand, are supposed to reach farther and be used in low-light or inclement weather.

The number of peeps that run around here with burned out bulbs is laughable. I like the CHMSL for that reason. It gives me some idea that peeps are braking, not turning.

But then, I have seen every config of burned out brake lights including none. That one is a joy to decipher.

Very true, the number of Ford fiestas I’ve stopped/pulled over and helped reinstall the brake light switch that had fallen out of the pedal box is crazy! I always try to inform people of blown bulbs...
