Why no rear fog lamp on vehicles in USA when everyone loves front fogs?

I’ve not noticed they help me see anything better other than perhaps the road directly in front of me, which is not where I am looking when driving at speed on the road with the chance of a deer sprinting across the road.

Fog lights (front and back) have a time and a place. The fronts are really only designed for helping illuminate 20/30ft of road with a wide and low spread. They are great when in low vis situations and when off roading to see ruts and ditches...

The pattern that comes out typically doesn’t have much form (like headlights) hence why the fronts typically annoy approaching drivers. I did notice on my wife’s rav4 and my truck (both 2020 led’s) the pattern is really well designed without much light spread going upwards that would annoy oncoming drivers.

My opinion doesn’t matter. It’s your ride. You really don’t need TW for validation. Keep on keep on. Enjoy your ride.

Not too much fog here in the tropics. I do remember the rear fog lamps in Germany. There is a stretch of autobahn between Wurzburg and Heilbronn. This area gets very very foggy. Scary foggy. Sometime the red fog light in front of you is the ONLY light you can see on the car ahead of you.

I’ve only had fog lights on a pair on automobiles and in the situations I thought they were supposed to help me I was very underwhelmed. Maybe I just don’t know how to use them or I just had too high of expectations. I understand the glare from (much more often) snow and fog caused by hi beams, but I’ve never turned on the fog lights and thought OMG I can see again!

Funnily a rear fog would be useful here on Hawaii island. The main road that joins East/West is often in the clouds and vis goes to zero.

The problem again Here would be The operator, 2 lane roads are still a novelty that are to be learned let alone A rear fog lamp !AF8BF47C-3222-4254-A657-84E079788F9F.jpg

We're pretty slow to adopt anything that doesn't get bred, hatched & raised right here. It's just who we are. I don't mind it, kinda like the 'Murcia first attitude, to be honest.:oldglory:

But it doesn't mean that it always makes sense. ABS brakes, third brake lights, rear cameras - all that stuff was standard most other places way before it was standard here. Now we don't even think about them. Look at all the folks commenting (probably in all seriousness) that the OP means white fog lights, and not the slightly brighter red tail light. "Do you drive backwards"? Really? Funniest part - we're a bunch of people that will add several thousand dollars worth of lights, bars, racks, f*ing flux capacitors and universal hyper-drive magnetic couplers, blah blah blah (I'm guilty of ALL of these by the way) stuff we use 3-4 times a year, but complain (some) that a rear fog marker light will add to the cost of the car? Really? LMFAO...

The guy with the taxi cabs, right? In California. Yup - back in the 70's, but they weren't mandatory until like 10 years later (something like that). I thought he was European for some reason - must have been thinking of someone/ somebody else - good catch!

Pride is important, but it shouldn’t get in the way of safety. I’m not saying the rear fog light would change everyone’s lives but it is interesting to hear a few learned TW peeps think the USA lighting rules need to be updated... Also interesting that a lot of peeps don’t even know the rear fog lamp is actually real!

as I say pride is important... sending Aloha to one and all...301D196B-C363-4155-9F64-5F65B7FB93A1.jpg
