This truck is new to me. Help me find it on the "head unit". (Some of us old farts are a little slow with new technology)

What trim level (OR, Sport, SR5) is the 2015? My OR 2010 has the temp and direction above the mirror. The mirror has a very small backup camera and is self dimming. I think the self dimming feature is weak though and wish it would go darker.

    Ooohhhhh

I have that in my 13 in my mirror.

A compass is a requirement for me in a truck.

My guess is Toyota had issues with the temp/compass units...mine stopped working on my '05.... I had to take it apart and re-solder one end of a resistor to repair it. There was a guy on ebay you could send your broken one to and he'd send a refurb'd unit. My '15 has the temp display on the radio which is pretty crappy because it doesn't update that often. I actually miss having the compass.... but not enough to buy the fancy mirror....

Grew up without a clock in the vehicle but the lack of functional voltage, temp, and oil pressure guages is a bit lame. By the time a warning light comes on you've already done damage. Much better to know how things stand and if they are changing before it's too late. Adding a voltmeter is as easy as plugging in a switch but not so for the other two.

Its because it gets the info from "HD radio" which is basically only available near major cities / metro areas.

I think I paid around $140 for a mirror from Bob with compass and temp read out. I only had to run the wires for the sensor, and also add the sensor to front of the truck.

I hated that my 2015 with nav only had the HD radio weather function. It's aboslutely worthless in the boonies.

Accuweather probably paid toyota money to get their logo on the head unit screen

I figured it was because the 3rd gen was just around the corner and they decided to cut corners and phone it in on the last year of the 2nd gen :pccoffee:

My '15 also came with the basic mirror. A lot of the 15's have the wiring already run for a homelink/compass mirror located in the headliner above the map lights. Check out Bob's Mirrors you can get a plug n' play unit with compass and temp for around 150$

I had added the Gentec autodimming rearview mirror with compass and homelink to my '18 Taco while I had it.

Still have the mirror if anyone is interested. 5 minute installation.

Damn, I thought ‘Yota put the temp/compass back in the 3rd Gens..

Another endorsement for the Bob’s Gentex...Installation’s a breeze, just make sure you have the harness in your overhead console and know how many wires are in it..
