Annealed Ti alloys are about 36 HRC. Something that is going to be formed and then get smashed on rocks to this degree should be more malleable than that(under typical wheeling temps). Those who say it would break or crack are likely correct, but I suppose testing would be in order for some to believe that. I wouldn't call 36 HRC "HARD" relative to some other metals, but it really does not suit the application. There is a reason you don't see it out there.

Nevermind the absurd cost and manufacturing challenges. It actually isn't difficult to machine at all (I could argue that stainless is more challenging), just takes proper tooling and a lot more time and attention than steel or aluminum. If you are patient, Ti is easy as shit.

As we all know, time is money.

    Something wrong with your data.
    4130 N
Ftu = 90ksi to 95 ksi (S basis) per Mil-Hdbk-5 or AR-MMPDS-01, depending on thickness

Ahh I see. You chose 4130 yield (per Matweb or something) and compared it to 6al-4v ultimate.

Why did you compare obviously different properties?

For reference, if people actually want strengths of metals, always use ANC-5, or Mil-Hdbk-5, or MMPDS (the last one generally have to pay for, except the first version MMPDS-01).

Wooden sliders is the way to go. After snapping a set of 2x4’s I personally like the more beefy 4x4 variety. Much less expensive than some bitch ass titanium sliders.

Ti radio knobs are going to snap. Look into super duplex for corrosion resistance from your bacon grease covered hands.

Yep. And we hate it. It burns out tooling right quick, and is hard to manage in general compared to other stuff.

China is kicking Russia's backside these days in Ti production. They found a HUGE amount of the raw ingredients laying around. Russia and Japan are neck and neck for number 2, and Kazakhstan (is number 1!) is number 4 on the list.

As an aside: the big Ti plant I used to work at just outside of Henderson, NV sourced all of its raw Ti base elements from a special dirt that comes from Australia. We melt and and convert it to TiCL4 "tickle". Then we suck up the tickle in a magnesium "sponge" then cook it in these big ovens to make Ti ingots the size of telephone poles. It's pretty wild.

Oh yeah, the jokes were endless. My view of Tickle Me Elmo was also tarnished severely.
