How much did the mechanics quote you for the "maybe/possibly" repair?

One quoted a couple hundred for just the diagnostic, the other didn't want to touch it.

    A few.
Happens all the time. I guess people figure if a tacoma doesnt fit there needs then none of the other offerings in the mid size class are worth considering.

Friend of mine bought one a year or two ago and was so happy with the deal he got. 6 months later he was returning it as it qualified for the State Lemon Law. Power driver seat broke, air conditioner problems, dashboard display issue, problem with transmission shifting upper gears, rattling in the headliner. 14 separate issues over 1st 3-4 months. Maybe not typical, but more likely with dodge.

One reason right off is You Tube is an opinion platform with no credibility filters.

Do some math. The cost per gallon of diesel is a good bit more than gas. So while the mpg may be better, the cost per mile may not be as good.

Currently diesel here is 75c more than regular. So a 15mpg Taco would cost 11.26c/mi. This means a diesel would need to get 21.75mpg to break even in cost per mile, or have ~32% better mpg.

Even if the cost per mile is better, how long will it take to break even on the cost of initial purchase? 'Never' seems reasonable.

Yes, lots more torque. For sure. Good for mall burnouts, drag racing and towing heavy.

Do you tow heavy? If so, step up, as a Tacoma was never for you anyway.

I just went from a 2019 Silverado(new body) to a 15 Tacoma and I couldn't be happier. I was able to lemon law the chevy. It was such a POS. Not so much fun when the brakes randomly fail...

Yea, taco may be smaller and “worse” on paper. But after having my fair share of repairing dodges with Hemis, I would stay far away from them. One of the least reliable v8s you can buy these days (opinions vary) I’ve torn the heads off 5 of them due to lifter issues and not a single one was at 80k miles yet.

With that being said I also would never touch a ford with the 3.5. Terrible water pump design that eats engines when it leaks into the oil.

If I needed a full size or HD pickup, I would not shop Chrysler products, period. Heck I would not shop any Chrysler products made after 1973.
I would definitely go with GM or Ford, maybe Tundra.

In the last month at work we've had 2 EcoBoost Explorers back to back that needed both turbos replaced. They were spewing oil into the exhaust and intake plumbing and smoking like a mf. One had 45k, the other had 75k

    No thanks

My mothers flex needed the pump at 70k. Luckily I caught it before the coolant in the oil cooked the bearingd

Benefits of a Ram is that it's payload is stupid high so you can load it up with whatever you want (my stock leaves are flat right now) and you can put very large tires and get a lot of ground clearance easily.
Tacomas struggle in both of those departments.

Downsides to a Ram off the top of my head is the HVAC system and wheel bearings are known to be trash. And that it cannot maneuver tight easily trails easily.

I've asked myself the same question OP. Maybe when I'm older 50's, 60's I might get a Ram and throw a camper in the bed.

I have only known 2 people who had to turn a vehicle back in under the lemon law. Both were F150s. Coincidence?
