So like... what about when your spindle brakes on a Tacoma?

We can go back and forth with anadotic stories of reliability issues but the truth is even the worst cars today are as good or better than the best from 20 years ago.

Also you make the Wrangler sound like its going to blown an engine in 3 days of purchase. Yawnz. I'm no Jeep fan, but try and diminish their success and popularity is out right stupid, expessially when your ammunition is IQ surveys and stories of some girl.

The Wrangler clearly serves a purpose and does it very well. If the styling, adaptability and limitless aftermarket appeals to someone, then by all means they should buy it.

The only time I've ever heard of that happening is on a LT taco without spindle gussets and hitting some hard terrain.

Wait. So you mean that the whole episode about trying to kill that truck was fake? DANGIT and I bought my truck based on that. Well, that and the fact that they use Tacomas in the desert.

Geeze I hope this truck survives my mall crawling. :(

The market is just not asking for this here. This must be popular in Australia. That was the first place to come to mind.

Americans are too wimpy and the 70 would probably wind up in the hands of some bratty 17 year old drama queen crying because the diamond in her tiara is small

Get one of these old school Manx or clone Dune buggy's and keep the Tacoma stock.
Or go for it, lift it, you will look at it lifted and say DAM!!!!
It will be like a new truck.

I like Jeeps, but i'm guessing the swap will cost 15K not worth it.

Id hold off on the new JK till its been out awhile. always issues on first model years. I still think they havent figured out the auto trans. 3 guys i wheel with had to get a new fluid pickup or pan installed. BC it would go into neutral climbing ledges.

XJs are a lot of vehicle for not much money. Cheap parts, and if you mess it up wheeling it, it's just a Cherokee.:D

Why do people seriously ask questions like this on a forum devoted to other vehicle make/model? I will never understand it. People fire piss against both sides to which vehicle is "better" or the best option when realistically beyond driving down a trail, neither have much in common at all.

Go for the FJ man. I sold my Tacoma to get a 4x4 FJ and it has been excellent. 5 dollar stick on mirrors COMPLETELY eliminated the blind spot. Actually, I don't even have to turn my head much to know if the lane is clear anymore, because the little mirrors work so well. I daily drive my FJ 30 miles every day, and it has actually been my best daily driver vehicle I've ever owned, even with 285 M/T tires and a 3 inch lift. AND, at the same time I recently have taken it for its first off road trip on some pretty difficult trails and it kicked ass. Yes you can't take the roof off and all that, but you can get adventure tube doors for it.

I don't know anyone who has a Jeep even the Rubicon that keeps it stock, so add 3-5K on to the 30K.

It's all CGI and special effects. You'd think you know it isn't real just by the fact that most of their cars have the steering wheels on the wrong side.

The Jeep Rubican, huh? Well, the less passenger space, less cargo space, lower hauling capacity, and lower towing capacity all rule that out for me. Not impressed with the performance either (that extra horsepower doesn't result in any greater torque). Especially not impressed with the appearance or build quality. The body design is archaic (70's or 80's) and every Jeep I've ridden in either squeaked, rattled, or similar.

If I all I did was go off roading I'd love a Rubicon.

Tacoma is going to be infinitely better off road and is more practical. Most people don't wheel hard enough to really need fr/rr lockers and solid axles, despite what they might say on here.

I'm not going to bash Jeeps--they have their purpose. I've owned two: First, a 1979 CJ; last a 2009 JK. I wouldn't have one as a daily driver, which was my last mistake with the JK. Fun? Yes--in the right setting. Practical, all-around get-r-done vehicle? Not so much. Really depends on what you need in a vehicle, OP. I traded in my JK because it drove like shit over 35 and the engine was so underwhelming at all speeds that I got pissed every time I drove it. And the workmanship was pathetic. Gee, I wonder why? The only thing I did like about it was the open-air feeling. Good luck with your decision but I say stick with the Tacoma.
