Why not let it hang?

I've seen people buy fuel gap holders, and people talk about just hooking it. My question is, what is wrong with letting it hang down? It's not like you are driving around and the cap is scratching the truck. I've just let it hang while filling up from day one and have had no issues. What am I missing? The holders seem like a waste of money for people who are trying to make their truck feel seem special (with all due respect).

I agree and I like wasting money.

p.s. you don’t have to let it dangle. It clips in the flap clip and stays away from the paint if you are worried about dangler scratches.

I was talking about that with “Hooking it” part. Has anyone ever filled their gas so violently that they scratched their paint with the plastic cap?

    Too much to list
I always thought it was odd as well. The amount of small mods people do really do add up and could potentially be much more substantial and beneficial parts.

I say that as someone who replaced my headlights and tail lights, at only sort of regret it now lol

There are two types of people, messy ones and neat ones. Those that don’t mind a bit of clutter in the household, and those who shitz their pants if they see a stray sock over in the corner.

The latter types are the ones who go :annoyed:
if they see a gas cap just omg, dangling!

Mine is a locking cap and doesn't have a lanyard to hang it by. The tank door insert was a must have.

I’m new to the Tacoma, coming from 25+ years of driving a SuperDuty. I just let the gas cap dangle.
Then one day I read about the infamous gas door cap clip. I tried it once or twice but usually I forget about it and let the cap hang “commando style”…..

I hate the self holder and I hate the tether. I snip the tether on any Tacoma I've owned right away. Also on a similar note I pull the ABS fuse at first snowfall.

I prefer "screwing" to "sticking", but that's just me!

EDIT: I still have the OEM dangle in case I get any codes from the STANT gas cap.

EDIT#2: The STANT gas cap does not have a tether...hence the gas cap holder.

So far...no codes in almost a year!!!

It must be getting close to Friday. A post about a gas cap? Really. If you want to spend money on a dodad do it. I spend money on wax, orbital machine. Spend where you like. But please clean the gas fill area on post 18. Lol
