    That's impressive A D comforting...418k miles.
Mine may do that who knows but I'm still going to come up with another 2.7 as a fun project and tear it all down and rebuild it with. Do some research and see if there are hi performance internals and upgrades as long as it doesn't affect reliability and have it on an engine stand for however long it takes for the original I have in it with 285k stops ticking...but 418k miles?!!! It may be awhile till needed if all goes well!!

You never had to adjust the valves?

Some people just like to complain. You are obviously happy with your choice and that’s the only thing that matters. I had a 4 banger in my 2007 Taco and it served me very well. No complaints at all.

Circumstances and situations sometimes change. As a result, I needed more power, when I purchased my 2022 Taco. The 6 cylinder fit the bill. If my needs had not changed, you can bet your bottom dollar I’d be driving a 4 banger.

I’ll never knock another person’s choice of vehicle. What the heck do I know about their individual needs and lifestyle? Absolutely NOTHING!

You might want to pull that valve cover and do a valve adjustment

That’s not how preventative maintenance works

You won’t cause any problems by maintaining the vehicle

Burnt valves can sneak up on you in the 2.7 without much warning. It’s easy enough to check the clearances to make it well worth it, just to make sure if nothing else.

This exactly. A friend with the 2.7 recently experienced burnt valves after ignoring this forever. No bueno, as now he's in for an expensive rebuild.

Been there done that. Pretty sure it wa ms burnt when I got it. Runs way better now.

I do wonder how many burnt 3rz valves are running around out there.

Edit: ran fine with these, just a touch of a rough idle

Probably a lot. They'll run for a while like that, and people just assume it's normal for it to idle rough or get 15 mpg. I imagine it doesn't happen to all of them, but it's easy enough to check. I wouldn't buy another 3RZ Taco without checking first.

Replacing the head isn't that much or too complicated. I wouldn't hesitate buying one if the price was adjusted for it.

$$$ now, though. Especially for a factory casting and not a repro

Yeah mine only had a bit of a miss at idle, gas mileage was good still. Only one burnt exhaust valve.

Definitely has more power now tho

I just had mine rebuilt by a head shop. $427 out the door.

Oh yeah, my rebuild was $525, I just mean “replacing” the head is pretty costly now

I mean with my own tools and simple know how. People paying someone to do it can pound sand.

Yeah it's not too bad if you do it yourself, but IME sellers don't wanna admit there could be anything wrong, because "it still works" and "it's a Toyota."
