Ok iv seen people plastidipping everything from their grills to their shocks and I have NO clue why. Longer shelf life? Is it for the looks? Is it comparable to getting a wax job done to your paint? And I apologize if this isn't the right thread but I have no idea where'd it go.

    Thanksssss in advanceeeeee!!!

It's easy to remove if you don't like it!

The added HP is good too though.

    Edit:

Plastidip doesn't last as long as paint.. It's more of a protective coating. It peels off, and it's a lot easier to make it look nice.

It is easy to use not to mention it allows you to run a color on without having it be permanent.

I personally don't understand it either...... I've plasti-dipped tools & such, so I know what it is.

But why would you cover up a perfectly good paint job?

And if your paint isn't perfect - Is it more cost effective to spend all that money on something that will eventually peel off VERSUS spending the money on a paint job and/or paint repairs & detailing?

You're talking the difference between a couple hundred bucks and little skill required DYI job and a several thousand dollar job that probably needs to be professionally done.

I wouldn't put it over paint, but it is a cheap, easy and forgiving (to those with little painting skills, such as myself) method of covering up unwanted chrome such as the rear bumper on an SR5.

I use it on certain interior parts as a test run for a few weeks to see if I like it and if I do then I make it permanent with paint. I also used it to black out my rear bumper because I didn't want to remove it or have to worry about overspray. Other than those reasons, if I go on a long camping trip and use my bed extender I put about 4 coats of plasti dip on my tailgate to protect it since it's down and I don't want it to get damaged from road/trail debris

The thing about plasti dip is that everyone knows its plasti dip. Looks cheap to me. Vinyl wrap is the better option in my opinion. You can get good vinyl wrap off ebay for cheap. It lasts 10 years and you can pull it off if you're tired of it. Not to mention the endless amount of color and texture options.

As I said, I have no clue where this would go. Detailing?

So really it's just either a concealer (chrome) or a protectant?

shit.. always knew I was an idiot..

I used it on my lower valence.. as it helps with rock chips. been dipped for over 3 years now with no issues. previously.. it was painted.. and it would constantly chip.

I also use The Derp on my wheels' simulated beadlock rings.. not gonna take the time to paint them.. when they get all effed up and gouged from wheeling.. just spray another coat of plastidip, and it fills the gouges and looks good as new.

Didn't say using derp makes one an idiot. Just saying its idiot proof, and there are lots of idiots who can't paint.

I have 3 cans in my garage.
