So i am wondering seems like guys that buy the TRD seem to take the shocks and control arms off right away. Why spend the extra money on a TRD . When you can by a SR5 or SR and make it yours. Is there something wrong with the shocks ect.

Do you mean the Pro? I would say that in the grand scheme, it’s a minority of people, but you are not wrong. Many argue that they should have bought the offroad instead or lower model.

Many people get them with no intention of modding it but then they come to TW and are compelled to empty their pockets.

People really want a nicer setup like kings coil overs with remote reservoir and a cab mount chop along with newer control arms to clear bigger tires, that’s all.

    This was me...:anonymous:

SR5/SR has same shocks as the TRD off road I believe. Only the TRD Pro comes with the Fox suspension set up, I think most of those guys probably keep the suspension the same. It's an after market suspension that has a factory warranty. That's pretty sweet. And the Pro demographic is going into the purchase knowing they're buying a pre built truck whereas the TRD Off road crowd are typically looking to modify/edit their rigs.:transformer:

Pretty sure only the Offroad has the Bilstein's. The others just get regular shocks.

    Pro - Fox
    Offroad - bilsteins
    Sport - Hitachi (blue)
    Limited - Hitachi (black)*
    sr/sr5 - Hitachi (black)

*Should be correct, but not sure on the limited shocks

The sr and sr5 is missing some features that is available on the pro and offroad models. Crawl control (automatic trans), bigger rear axle (all manuals have the bigger axle), factory rear locker, headlights, and several interior bits are better on the trd offroad and pro models.

Actually, any of them have the blistiens apparently. Mine is an sr5 with what seems to be the trail package, which the blistiens are part of that. They are listed specifically on the dealership paperwork but I'll have to look at the truck myself when I pick it up.

You should have OR wheels, not the Bilsteins.

    What color are your shocks?

Disagree. I dumped the Pro suspension day 2. Underwhelmed having run icons and BPb51’s in the past.

She's a beauty! I love that voodoo blue. Do you think most Pro owners have gone that route? Or are you in the minority?

And I'm genuinely curious what things you prefer in the pro trim after your mods. Or did you not anticipate doing all this when you originally bought?

Edit: I think this is the first truck with a topper that I think looks good. I don't know why but they usually don't to me.

I bought a TRD OR and replaced the shocks after 2 months. To answer your questions:

Why spend the extra money on a TRD? - because the SR/SR5 DC dont come in manual. The rear locker is neat too.

Why replace the shocks? I hated the softness and brake dive and wanted to lift the truck.

In all honesty if the SR came with a manual I would have bought that and spent the money saved on more mods.

does anyone know if the spring rates are different between models? Or is it just the shocks?

I was told they’re all the same. 4banger trucks might be different though.

If you mean the TRD off-road, it’s generally because the off-road comes with the rear locker which would otherwise be $1000+ aftermarket mod and that alone almost splits the price difference between a SR5 and an
OR (YMMV). Personally, I also took into consideration that I wanted a manual transmission and off-road traction control (aka ATRAC). For TRD Pro buyers, the choice seems less obvious to me. I think some want a to lift the truck, some want to increase the payload capacity, some want to fit bigger tires, etc.
