i have an access cab. i think the short beds look awkward, and dclb too big. I can't even fit a weed whacker in the short bed.

Wut? You can't park your truck in your driveway for as long as u want? I've heard the street parking limits before, but in your own driveway. Unreal ...

Glad we stayed away from HOAs ... Sorry man :(

I think the easiest answer is that people want 4 doors and the long-bed is too long. Now don't get me wrong, as a vehicle isn't not extremely long, but the actual wheelbase of a DCLB is massive. 1' is a huge extension to a wheel base and turning radius. It's 140.9" for the DCLB wheelbase. To put that in perspective a Chevy Silverado Quad Cab is only 3" longer. Most people that are going to take that large of a hit on maneuverability are going to go with a fullsize. I think that all sums up DCSB vs DCLB quite well.

On the flip-side. AC vs DCSB is easy... 4 doors, argument is over. I'm an AC owner myself and I find every now and then 4 real seats would be nice. multiple hour trips to go to snowboarding resorts. Wheeling with friends in the woods. Interior storage for luggage or groceries.

Also, everyone claiming "people get a DCSB because they can't park a DCLB" are completely wrong about their perception of where a DCLB fits. A DCLB is beyond frustrating to deal with on any tight offroad trail, parking garage or major city.

    Wow, different world.

Few years ago my parent's town decided they were going to try to stop people from having unregistered vehicles on their property. Probably would have been good revenue in fines because nearly everyone has at least one unregistered vehicle up there. People use them a lot as plow trucks or just to haul stuff around their land. They were not happy. The town quickly abandoned that idea.

Granted, it is more rural there. There's a 2 acre minimum lot size I believe.

    Yeah.
Before I purchased my first one (2WD), I figured why not have the long bed? I drove both, and the long bed felt a lot more awkward to me so I went with the short bed. I don't have a specific need for the long bed, and I haven't run into a case where I really needed it. When I was ready to upgrade to 4WD, I wanted the Off Road, so I didn't have a choice.

    I've had 3 Tacomas:

'99 Access Cab (V6 4x4 TRD Offroad) -- jump seats were too small for the kids -- sold it.
'11 TRD Sport DCLB (V6 4x4) -- wow that was big -- too big and sold it.
    '10 SR5 DCSB (V6 4x4) -- current rig -- I think it's a keeper

The reason why I went with the DCLB initially is because I was concerned about the weak tailgate. This time around, I've got the tailgate re-enforcement kit on order from Relentless and that should do the trick. Plus the bikes going in the bed are just dirt / dual-sport bikes that weight less than 300 lbs anyway.

IMHO, the DCSB proportions look better and with having my DCLB out on trails with some of this forum's f&$kers - the DCLB it really is too big.

Nobody understands. They want to kill the access cab like the regular cab! Soon everybody will have Mega Ram Runners with 4 foot beds ;)

I got mine for more room in the back and taking others around comfortably. Reason I went with the SB is cause I dont haul a lot of stuff except for my dirt bike during riding season and didnt need the 6' bed. Plus I liked the look of the DCSB the best out of them all. ;)

Apparently, in some neighbourhoods, it is hidden in the garage. :(
