Just throwing it out there - but could it be because there is a larger market for salvaged tacomas as they are desirable for building a dedicated off road rig?

    3 reasons I've found

    1. The Tacoma resale market is so good a lot of people are more willing to fix/rebuild a Tacoma rather than a ford or nissan

    2. With all the crazy weather/rains a lot of tacomas were flooded and damaged in California and the surrounding areas (Arizona, Texas, Nevada)

    3. Lots of sketchy scam posts

There really no such thing as a vehicle that has a salvage title from minor or cosmetic damage.

For a vehicle to be a total loss, the cost of the repair needs to pass a threshold of about 70% of the current market value.
The reason being is that the salvage value of vehicles is about 30% of current market value.
So, for an insurance company that can recoup 30% salvage, it makes no economical sense for them to pay more than the difference to settle the claim.

Now for how they get back on the road...
If a Tacoma worth 30k is totaled, 70% the repair cost is 21k
The salvage value is 30% or 9k

Most salvage purchases are worth more in parts than they are whole.
Meaning you can buy it for 9k, sell all the undamaged parts, like doors, hood, fenders, lights, Interior etc..and make a profit on your purchase.

But, sometimes there’s even more profit to be had by putting the car back on the road instead of parting it out.

Pay 9k for it and spend 10k instead of the 21k fixing it, by cutting corners, using aftermarket parts, repairing parts that needed to be replaced etc...and then sell it as a salvage title for 29k by telling dummies that don’t know any better that it ‘only had light damage’ and you just made 10 grand

Portland has several salvage title Tacos on Craigslist now. Couple of these are the three pedal types.

Lol look at the general demographic of Tacoma owners equal younger males.
Younger males means shitty drivers. Shitty drivers mean disproportionate wrecks.
Disproportionate wrecks means higher than average Craigslist salvage sales.

    I love math.
